Remove scope glint or remove descope when getting shot

I’m not saying it’s a good thing. Personally, I’d drop the glint altogether. But, I guess I’m just old school like that.

Long ranged power weapons are meant as flank weapons.

Arrash just made a great point about them being used to take out enemies who aren’t paying attention to you, not enemies who are directly attacking you.

Use them appropriately and you won’t have an issue.

3 lane maps don’t allow flanking, not to mention 12v12 with radar

We’re discussing Sniper Rifle use, not mid range engagements.

Flanking doesn’t have to exclusively encompass movement.

Picking off enemies on their flank from a distance is also flanking.

No one is flanking with a sniper…Its a cross map weapon and most of the maps are too small for the sniper as is.

but throwing scope glint on top of that mechanism is just awful and makes long range weapons nearly impossible to use.

Have you considered that you just suck with snipers? Every few games I run into a guy that’s just godlike with snipers despite the mechanics you’re talking about. I’m not particularly good with the sniper, but I wouldn’t say it’s “nearly impossible to use.” I get kills and the occasional no scope. /shrug

You misunderstand the point I’m making or you’re being intentionally difficult.

You use the Sniper to pick off enemies that aren’t looking at you or paying attention to you, it’s not a direct engagement weapon.

Not saying it can’t be used in that capacity from time to time, but you’ll get much better use out of it if you’re picking off players engaged with other players than you will if you go after them head on.

Play around the weaknesses of the weapon to maximize effectiveness.

or at least reduce the glint by a lot. It is way too bright and tells everyone on the map your location and people start peppering your position with bullets

I saw a guy earlier in BTB just camping on a hill sniping half the match. Since nobody else bothered to stop him, I went all the way across the map crouched just to back smack him. Camper snipers are mad annoying and were a plague in older Halo games, especially on Blue team since Red always stood out like a sore thumb. Lens glowing comes from Destiny, just like 89% of the rest of the new features in Infinite. Blame Bungie for inspiring 343 to make Infinite into Destiny 3. Since everyone glows now, sniping across the map became way too easy without them glowing back when they aim. Just no scope if you hate being caught camping.

It is a bad edition to Halo and doesnt need to be there. One bullet descopes you.

I can get kills with the sniper just fine, but the minute you scope in you stick out like a sore thumb. Its overly punishing to have a descope mechanic and then on top of that basically looking like the sun every time you scope in.

Halo uses 3 lane map designs…someone is ALWAYS looking at you because its designed to be open like that.

I can get kills with the sniper just fine,

Wait hold up. You’re able to use the sniper just fine and get kills, but in your initial post you said that the weapon is “nearly impossible to use.” Which is it?

Scope glint was introduced in battlefield 3 years before destiny even existed…

And hill sniping is simply part of BTB just like vehicles are as that mode is never meant to be balanced. That said, it was already easy to deal with those players, why punish everyone even more by having a scope glint that is as bright as the sun on top of descope mechanics on top of bullet streams? Its not like it was ever difficult to find out where a sniper was in Halo thanks to the bullet stream.

I’m sorry, YOUR topic is about getting rid of descope/glint, I’m explaining to you how to use the Sniper effectively (how I use the Sniper effectively) so you avoid giving away your position with scope glint and avoid descope, and you’ve been trying to steer the conversation into an unrelated discussion of map lanes?

There’s always a flank position if you play to the map intelligently.

I honestly have no idea how you took my comment and went to “don’t stand out in the open”

Key word nearly. Its not about difficulty of aim, because nothing in this game is difficult to aim with, its about how overly punishing it is to use it.

Map lanes isn’t unrelated to your comment…There is no avoiding giving away position with a sniper. Everyone knows the general direction of where a sniper is just by having the sniper being shot which is perfectly fine. The problem is the scope glint is as bright as the sun. You know how many times I’ve gone across the map and only picked someone out of the corner of my eye because of how damn bright the scope glint is? That shouldn’t be a thing. I was out of position and should have been a free kill, but because the scope glint gave away his pretty good positioning I avoided getting shot. That’s beyond dumb.

Nah I reject this wholesale. Saying something is “nearly impossible to use” while also saying “I can get kills with the sniper just fine” is contradictory. If you’re using it fine, you can’t also say that it’s nearly impossible. It’s one or the other.

You’d never accept it if someone said “driving is nearly impossible” while also being like “oh I can drive just fine.”

You can reject whatever you want, but your analogy is dumb. Viewing balancing mechanics in a game is not the same as driving a car. Snipers already have a bullet stream that gives away their position and they get descoped if shot at. They don’t need scope glint on top of that giving away their position. If they want scope glint then go back to Halo 4 sniper where you don’t get descoped when shot at.
