Remove scope glint or remove descope when getting shot

Having both of these mechanics is extremely dumb. I understand descope is a legacy thing (which should have stopped being a thing years ago) but throwing scope glint on top of that mechanism is just awful and makes long range weapons nearly impossible to use.

Keep it on sniper and skewer, maybe leave it on pulse rifle. Everything else should not have it.

I don’t agree. This isn’t CoD or Battlefield. Scope glint doesn’t need to be in a game where getting breathed on causes you to descope. If they removed the descope mechanic then I’d have zero problems with glint, but as it stands scope glint shouldn’t be a thing, especially with how bright it is and lore wise it doesn’t even make sense. They are electronic scopes, there’s nothing to “shine” off of.

What is scope glint?

When you’re looking through a scope other players see a bright light from you which is the “glint” from the scope.

Eh,

I kinda agree. They added this massive glow around everyone. The glint is kinda redundant.

Have you seen a random bright light across the map? That was most likely a player with a sniper pointed in your direction.

That scope glint is meant to balance the insta-kill threat that a sniper rifle poses.

I could get on board with a “one or the other” change. Pretty early into the game I quit ADSing all together due to the frustration of the descope. I think the pistol has this function deactivated…weird. It’s like they have bound glint and descope together, bc pistol doesn’t have either.

How about making mp maps have Day/night cycles and make the glint shows up when you look into direction of the the main Light source. It’s weird to see it when the Sun is behind the sniper…

The pistol doesn’t have a scope. That zoom in function can be done on all the weapons with no scope on them because its basically your helmet doing a zoom in.

Ok that’s a technicality…whether it’s your helmet or your weapon, the (let’s call it…) deZOOM function is disabled with the pistol, AR, etc. Regardless of whether it’s a helmet zoom or a scope zoom, how does it make sense that one deZOOMs and one doesn’t? Imagine yourself in real life aiming with iron sights or a scope…the two are identical.

So the technicality doesn’t really further the discussion.

I’d remove it completely, it feels lame.

Correct me if i M wrong but the sniper should use smartlink (cable) and pistol does use it with the helmet.

And that’s a bad thing, it’s already a 2 shot body kill with a huge delay between shots. It screams noob friendly mechanic.

Its not a technicality though. They don’t treat the helmet as a scope because its a small zoom in. I don’t even use that feature because its pointless due to damage falloff and bloom on any gun you would use that feature on.

I’m certainly not going to die on this hill, but I see how it adds a layer of skill on those 1-shot weapons. The lens flair on power weapons means you have to be quick with them and can’t just track an enemy and wait for an easy shot.
And no need to bring lore into a gameplay mechanic discussion. One can dream up any lore excuse they want, that’s what has happened up to this point.

Maybe don’t run around in the open where you deserved to get popped? Bad positioning by bad players isn’t an excuse for a poor mechanic like scope glint in a game where you can already counter long range weapons easily by just shooting at them causing them to descope.

Scope Glint and Descope are anti camping, Halo 4 didn’t have descoping and it was piss easy to snipe in it because of this…

it was always annoying to see someone across the map standing still looking in your general direction, only to find yourself instantly dead because they had a sniper and you had nothing to deal with it, you could only go with your best guess and assume the person standing still in BTB looking at a single direction because he has a sniper, but this wasn’t always the case…

But just like how people leave a glow trail when they have Overshield or Active Camo, this lets people know that they not only have a weapon that can oneshot headshot you, but they’re probably getting ready to fire it… it at the very least gives SOME counterplay to long range precision camping…

I personally don’t like descoping, but I also don’t have a problem with them keeping it in. My problem is having both mechanics. Choose one or the other, not both.

I don’t usually use sniper, but when I do 3 kills out of 8 bullets.
the glint should be less (is like a lighthouse), and descope must be on, but with faster “charge” btwn shots.
