This will probably be moved to the barren wasteland that is the Poll Section soon anyways, so better have a good discussion now while it’s still here.
Are you ready to strafe if hitscan were in fact removed from the game?
I don’t really know what to say, there’s not context to this discussion and anyone that doesn’t know what hitscan is or how it affects Halo 5 is going to be completely stumped.
Are u kidding me? U must have never played halo 3 in your life. That game was a nightmare to play online.
Gosh. Would I want an aiming system that has my bullets land on the things I target, or would I want a projectile system that works like a lottery? A projectile system such as only one version of this game ever had - a mechanic I recall no one lobbying to get back again after Halo 3? Maybe we could dial up reticle bloom so my bullets are even more unpredictable? Let’s take the reticle off the screen altogether and just guess where our bullets are going to go?
No thanks.
Halo 5’s aiming is kind of wonky, as is the weapon balance, and abilities like thrust don’t help matters. I think it would be unwise to remove it in Halo 5, but definitely in future games.
> Are u kidding me? U must have never played halo 3 in your life. That game was a nightmare to play online.
Yet Battlefield 4 plays just fine online.
The problem with Halo 3 is that if you’re going to have a projectile utility weapon you can’t also give it spread, burst-fire and low damage, that just makes it incredibly inconsistent and unlikely to kill someone before they can escape. The Battle Rifle was completely worthless in that game, the only reason everyone flocked to it was because other weapons were somehow even more worthless.
This is a game. No hitscan makes it not fun to play. I just hated how in Halo 3 the BR would be a 4 burst kill, but you would almost never get a 4 burst kill because there was no hitscan.

Battlefield 4 is also basically a twitch shooter and the inconsistencies of the shots are less noticeable. Compare that with Halo, and arena shooter with a longer TTK those consistencies become more noticeable, it failed in Halo 3 as you said and therefore would fail in halo 6. No hitscan just wont work with a halo-esque game.
OP, you don’t know what you’re talking about. H3 had physical projectiles and it was a laggy mess. Hit scan is more accurate and less bandwidth intensive.
Yeah, there are way too many Halo 3 lovers out there… it was the ONLY halo NOT to use hitscan, which is why it’s the worst halo game ever (my opinion). The awful hit detection made that game unbearable for me; I’m just glad Halo 5 got the core mechanics right.
> it was the ONLY halo NOT to use hitscan, which is why it’s the worst halo game ever (my opinion)
The very -Yoinking!- first game in the entire franchise had no-hitscan.
This, and these nonsensical claims about hit registration (it’s not 2004 anymore guys), is the exact reason why I usually avoid these threads.

After well over a year of getting the netcode to work properly patch after patch.

Only for the pistol, and potentially the Sniper Rifle. I believe the Assault Rifle and Shotgun were both hitscan. Also, the nonsensical claims about hit registration could certainly be valid in light of the numerous complaints about lag and connection issues with Halo 5. If Halo 6 does not improve upon this, what makes you think that hitscan would be truly consistent, or that it even belongs in a tactical (non-twitch) shooter?

I agree to an extent, but BF4 does not play “just fine” online. Shots don’t register regularly and you’ll be cheated out of a lot of kills 'cause of it, at least on PC.
OP wants to remove hitscan. He doesn’t mention adding projectile shooting mechanics in it’s place.
He proposes a system where when you pull the trigger, it’s just an animation. Points are scored by shouting “Dude I shot you you gotta play dead now!” into the microphone. This would also solve the issue of lack of game chat.

If 343 could actually maintain dedicated servers, projectile wouldn’t be an issue at all.
Why it belongs in a game like Halo? It forces players to lead their shots at range to maintain accuracy, and requires active knowledge of projectile travel time and the target’s distance in order to compensate. People talk about how they like a high skill-ceiling, well this adds to it.

Or maybe it would create an even bigger rift between the casual and competitive players, which is another major complaint with Halo 5.

The only reason that is a major complaint is because for the longest time, Halo 5 went without a single social playlist. On top of that, Warzone, which was intended to be a social mode, is filled with players who cause it to be the exact opposite.
Halo CE-3 and even reach after the title update all had a higher skill ceiling than 5, but no one ever complained then.

I wouldn’t say that. Halo 2 is all about combos and network manipulation, Halo 3 and Reach are a mix of skill and luck, and CE is just skill and spawn control. Halo 5 definitely takes more skill than any previous Halo game. EDIT: Unless you’re using a Sniper rifle. Then it’s pretty easy…
