Does anyone else really want to see ‘Guardians’ dropped from the title? It might just be me, but it feels like it lessens it’s place in the main Halo line up. The last two that had a additional name tacked on was Halo Reach and Halo 3 ODST.
FoR Reach, it was fine because it was entirely focused on the planet Reach. For ODST, well, it both stoff on it’s own and was made to support the story of Halo 3. No matter how you slice it, it is a expansion pack.
But for a main Halo title, it just needs to be ‘clean’. It just needs to be Halo 5.
I really don’t mind with the subtitle, actually it’s very original. I would remove the number instead, since 343 stated that the new trilogy turned into a “saga”.
Adding a subtitle to it and slowly getting rid of numbered games is something I’m heavily for. Halo 4 sounded cheap to me, Halo 5 sounds even worse but Halo 5: Guardians makes it sound a little more interesting.
If they named the next major title Halo 6 it would just be awful. There’s an element of cheapness to a series when you see past 3 on the box. If anything, remove the number and just go with Halo: Guardians.
We don’t even know the meaning to the subtitle Guardians and you want to get rid of it? No, absolutely no. Subtitles have had meaning in each Halo that had a subtitle and I want to know what “Guardians” is referring to. Also the subtitle makes the game sound more interesting, so why remove it?
The move towards dropping numbers is great. Halo 4 sounded good, and looked good, but when you start getting to 5 and 6 thints get dicey. They don’t sound interesting anymore, and it sounds cheap.
With the scale of the Reclaimer Saga, adding subtitles allows them to better convey the scope of the story they want to tell, and keep the names more interesting.
> You’re not going to be saying the same thing when 343 announces Halo 42.
Do we really think we will get that far…? If each numbered game has a three year cycle that’s over 100 years out…
Anyways, the subtitle is starting to sit fine with me. I’m okay with the numbers going away after Halo 6 only because originally this was a new trilogy.
No, I’d rather they keep using subtitles. It looks nicer and is less bland. And like others have said, it starts looking ridiculous as the series goes on and has a big number in the title. So I see it as a good thing they’re moving away from that.
It’s 343i making another move to do away with the old formula. We might not ever see a Halo 6, because 343i has the intention to make this new “trilogy” not a trilogy at all but a saga, and they don’t want the number count getting so high.
> No no no and a million times no.

This about sums up everything I have to say on the topic, aside from Halo 4 sounding a little worn out after hearing people theorize for about five years or so. Subtitles like that could’ve been a pretty neat thing to add in the first place.
I don’t mind the subtitle, but “Guardians” is way too cliche and unoriginal. The term “Guardians” has been used in way too many games, just like the term “the Darkness.”
