I think everyone here who thinks something that explodes in ALL directions is homing in on them is Trippin. Throw a real grenade in a room and tell me where you would be safe?? Only thing I see is the stupid hit boxes everyone has is jacked up. Ive thrown plasma over peoples head and it stuck to their face and I asked myself, “HTF did that happen?”. MF’ers be trippin hard… smh
I got a great view of it happening two nights ago with one of my death cams. I hope the XBL capture link shares right…
Seconds 3-7 you can watch two grenades clearly bounce at a sharp angle towards a player instead of bouncing on a vertical-forward trajectory you would expect.
I’ve noticed that too! I literally ask myself all the time “why are these nades also blowing right next to me” or “wow that nade was too perfect!”. I play any game on MCC and i hardly experience that. That and for some odd reason grenades do immense damage from far way like i literally get half my shield knocked from a granade that wasnt anywhere relatively close to me, But ive through a granade under someones -Yoink!- before and it do nothing to them. So there is alot of problems regarding frag granades that are being ignored…
Jeez I played today again after a long time and won so many kills by throwing grenades and for most of them I didn’t even know exactly the how. For some of them I was so sure that I didn’t really hit them at all lol I’ve now got used to the fact that when I will throw a frag towards someone, I’ll have good chances to get someone even without understanding how it hit the target. In older Halos I almost never wondered how I hit someone - I knew exactly what was my own doing and it was all finely calculated.
I don’t think they track but I do dislike that they seem to explode within a certain vicinity of the player and how quick it happens. The biggest place this is an issue is in Streets the ramp from C to B, players throwing grenades at that area can kill you so fast without you being able to respond. If they added a proper timer to grenades I don’t they’d be so much of an issue
You won’t see it though. You’ll only hear it. It’s like trying to outrun a phantom nade sometimes it’s weird. Theres normal grenades that you’ll see fly at you, and then times where like for example on recharge, you could be at the attic doorway and hear a grenade thrown somewhere from the pipe hallway, and you just hear bouncing but can’t see anything. I don’t have anything clipped, but I’ve ran all the way down the stairs towards long hall and could still hear the jingling follow me and take some splash damage.
Its typical to hear a few bounces, but what that experience is like, is like someome using a grenade launcher and holding onto the trigger to delay the explosion.
Plus you don’t even know exactly where the grenade exploded because the special effect is too short-lived, it doesn’t produce any smoke, and it doesn’t even scorch the ground.
Yea. With so many grenades in game, it creates so many wth moments. Grenades have always been an importan part of the sandbox, but it’s also had this love hate relationship for players. Grenade throwing skill is definitely something rewarding to master, but yea there’s moments where its not understood. Is it magnetism, are the grenades going through some weird server side issue where it’s trying to connect the dots between the players grenade, the other players position when it was thrown, and compensate for some weird lag?
It could be all the above. Its so weird. At the very least though, many players have experienced this. Itz like dude where is it!? When is it going to explode already!? Because our expectation is a few bounces and boom. When it goes far beyond that expectation…and its bouncing louder and louder…its like bro are you kidding me game? Lol
This is where I’m at. I have about 1500 games racked up overall. I’ve never noticed any grenade homing. I can maybe clip a few of my deaths to grenades to see what that’s all about but theatre is so broken I don’t bother with it anymore.
Without a point of reference to show us exactly what’s being meant by ‘grenade homing’ those of us who haven’t seen it don’t know what to look for, and it’s perfectly reasonable to be skeptical when this game is in such a state we never know what’s mechanics and what’s a bug (see: recent gun jamming issues).
Link works fine. Personally I think you’re misinterpreting a grenade hitting an angled slope and bouncing towards someone further down that slope as ‘homing’ but without being able to see the polygons and trajectories in an analysis view I think arguing over this is moot. I’ve seen this happen before with grenades and those hills of dirt with rocks and all sorts of obstacles are prone to sending a grenade wide of where you hit it. I’ve learned to adjust angles for grenades based on what they’ll be bouncing off of. But without a clearer diagnostic view of what’s going on internally during this clip I don’t know if there’s a 100% answer available.
So if I were going only off of that video, I could be skeptical too. But there has also been a lot of other video evidence from lots of people in the thread about various homing mechanics.
Let’s look at these statements which the community has proven out through video evidence (here/YT)
Spike grenade spikes will actively home in on players after bounces.
Shock grenades pull towards a player every time they “tick” for damage.
Plasma grenades actively bounce towards players, and this seems to increase with the distance thrown.
So given that three of four grenade types have confirmed magnetism and homing mechanics included in the game, is it actually reasonable to say frags don’t?
I claim no, and point to to my vid again as evidence (not happenstance). In an earlier post I included other video evidence of grenades homing. Other users in this thread have posted videos of frags angling odly to hit players as well.
Given all that I think there’s more evidence that grenades home in on players than evidence suggesting they don’t.
Im pretty convinced there is frag homing. Yesterday i literally saw a frag bounce of a wall on streets and come at me with no explanation at all. The physics didnt not compute to me what so ever. Plus it waited till it was right next to me before it blow. Im talking a 6 second stall after hitting a surface.
