Remove friendly fire in Halo 4 matchmaking

I’m sure its too late for Halo: Reach and thats fine, but please consider removing friendly fire damage in Halo 4 matchmaking. Is it just there for realism, or what? It exists to no gameplay benefit or serves any good purpose that I can think of, and it would remove the teamkilling problem in online multiplayer completely. Nothing causes more frustration to me in Reach matchmaking than its flawed betrayal system, whether its people betraying teammates intentionally or accidentally and getting booted from the game, and before you know it you’re down three players after a couple minutes. Or I accidentally threw a grenade with bad timing and killed a teammate who wants to be a jerk and boot me just because they can, and now I’m banned for ten minutes. It also sucks alot of the fun out of the game when every time you fire any sort of weapon with splash damage is another exercise in worrying if this guy over here is gonna get killed and boot you, so you don’t use it. Just address the problem at its source and remove friendly fire damage altogether, I think Halo 4 matchmaking and the teamwork aspects of its multiplayer modes would benefit immensely from it.

It’s there to add tactical depth. It’s so that player A can’t just decide to grenade or Rocket whenever he wants to if player B is nearby.

Taking out FF would be detrimental to Halo as a result.

If we don’t get this in halo 4, we will get it in the next one for sure

Friendly Fire is essential to Halo so that people don’t go around blasting aimlessly because they won’t do any damage to their teammates. Careless, mindless action. Having Friendly Fire on will make you think a little more before using those rockets and will get you to be a bit smarter with your decisions.

@OP: Firstly, learn to use the weapons that have splash damage. Don’t fire a rocket directly at the guy’s feet if your teammate is standing next to him. Either don’t fire a rocket and switch to your other weapon or shoot behind him with the rocket.

Secondly, if your grenade timing is that bad, I would have booted you to. If it looks like my teammate just purposely betrayed me when there is nobody else around, then I will boot him. That is most likely what is happening to you.

You just have to learn to control your actions better. Learn how to use explosives properly and be able to switch weapons if you aren’t comfortable with the explosive.

Also, if you do get the 10 minute ban, it is because this isn’t a rare occurrence or you quit out of games often.

It’s not the game’s fault, it’s yours. Keep playing and you’ll get better. As for intentional betrayals? What kind of world would we live in if we changed everything that could be exploited by jerks?

True Halo will always have ff. If it is removed all those forum topics that say “this is not halo!!!” will be correct.

There we go, let’s make even more unnecessary change to water the game down. That should be fun.

Now how in the world am I gonna be able to kill my little brother if he’s on my team with no FF? I’m not one of “those” who kill for weapons or vehicles or whatnot. I’m one of those who teamkills my friends when we are messing around. Plus, sometimes, some people have to die.

Disclaimer:
I do not condone repeated teamkilling or most forms of teamkilling for that matter. Only for recreational purposes with people you know and have established a form of comradery with.

No no no no and no. In infuriates me that people would even write such a post. NO.

Nah, that’s Halo bro.

if they would fix the betrayal boot system, it probably wouldnt be much of an issue. i think 2 betrayals with the second one giving the boot option. i know one night, a party of 2 d-bags, on 4v4 boardwalk got mad because i took rockets, so the arsehat betrayed me. Long story short, they ended up betraying us atleast 12times, before we got boot option… Thats limited.

Between betrayal boot option and the Avoid player not working, is really messing up the game. I mean seriously how the flip do you get matched up on same team back to back with a betrayal duo team… This is after i left matchmaking took 20 secs to avoid player, and joined back… BS! there is times where its enough to quit the game, and thats all that reach needs now, less players…

Boot option is worthless
Little kids betraying for a pixelated weapon
Nah halo is for men not baby jerks who forgot to put vinegar in there" garage"
Like come on mw2 has games that friendly fire is not possible and to even that out for people who like to shoot their own teammates or brother or sister is on another category
So if 343 is gonna take ideas like classes, ordinance skin your weapon etc that’s call of duty stuff then at least remove friendly fire.

Now I consider the following that every one would be happy
Halo 4 multiplayer is based on a “training camp” like what storm troopers train in the clone wars show
Meanin friendly fire there does not hurt your teammate but a vehicle splatter does. Simple as that.

Blasphemy.

Have you seen what disasters COD and Battlefeild can be?

In both games I can be shot directly by a rocket and survive, hell, even a tank in battlefeild.

No thanks. Just refine the boot system.

Betrayals are there to make it so you can’t mindlessly spam a rocket down a hallway filled with teammates.

EDIT: And was it REALLY necessary to bring this thread back?

Friendly fire is one of those things that define Halo.

If you want to be rid of the trolling betrayers, then fix the booting system, not just take the system out entirely.

> I’m with you 100%

Welcome to Waypoint and thanks for posting in a 2 month old annoying topic. Halo should keep friendly fire. Taking it out would be terribad.

Looking at the past Halo games you must know that is impossible to do.

Why don’t we just remove the crouch option too, so people can’t -Yoink!-. Huh? HUH?!

I lol’ed.

Yeah! raises pitchfork and don’t forget about shields! that -Yoink!- needs to go!

I would love an anti--Yoink!- armor ability. That would be so awesome.
