I’ve played a couple games of it now. I really tried to give it a chance, But it’s the worst gametype I’ve ever seen added to Halo.
Defenders have commando and sword starts.
Attackers have camo, pulse rifle, and pistol.
If the defenders aren’t spamming the sensors at every pathway to the flag, it’s incredibly easy to grab it and walk away with it unscathed. If they are covering every pathway then you need to beat commando with your pistol and keep your distance so you don’t get sword meleed.
As a defender, it’s pretty boring. Basically just camp the flag and spam your sensors at the pathways. Then when you see something. spam em with your nades and commando shots for quick and easy kills or chase with the sword.
There’s nothing that’s exciting or fun here. Just feels stupid.
Did anyone really think this gamemode could have been fun? It’s yet another gamemode 343 pulled out of their -Yoink!- and branded as “new exciting gamemode”… that anyone could create as a custom game in halo 3 in 3 minutes. It took them 6 months to make this “new gamemode”.
Meanwhile we still lack modes like assault and they butchered the classic KOTH formula. The decision making on 343’s part is baffling sometimes.
Hope this mode doesn’t join quick play after the event.
Have to agree, not a very good game mode…felt really meh and no real action… I can’t believe they actually play tested this and felt it was okay for release… Last Spartan Standing redux….
Super fun time playing Covert 1 flag tonight with my squad! I love the change of pace and style of gameplay that is needed. 3 minutes is a very, very long time to play defense. I’ll say that for sure!
I mean most of the community is worse with the commando than the sidekick - and sidekick is one of the best weapons in the game. Commando is pretty over powering on the larger maps though. Sword is probably a little much though, but at least melee can trade now.
Is it the worst gametype? Not sure, I hate strongholds since majority of the community doesn’t know how to hold 2 zones, so I would say that’s worse. But this gametype is fine for a rotational playlist or an eventual objective action sack playlist.
Because it was hyped as the centerpiece of the update aside from the Forge node nobody can play without a working file browser. 343 cancelled coop, ostensibly so they could work on Forge and this mode.
I was thinking the same thing! Some people here are quick to post their displeasure.
Yeah, I probably would have been fine with more One Flag. I really enjoy that mode, but it’s so darn rare with how it’s only been on one map as part of Quick Play.
I had a ton of fun with Covert One Flag last night. You have to be on top of it at all times to keep up your camo/sensors and strategize where you’re going as new sensors pop up and new camo enemies come into view.
The only real criticism I have is that because of this it doesn’t lend itself to playing by yourself, you really need a party to do well.
