Remove all gimmicks from Reach, please

Inclement weather, that weird thing that is similar to the flood, and that Grunt Birthday party effect should all be removed from Matchmaking. That’s right, get rid of all these gimmicks, please.

Why? Why such a drastic change? Well, you ever experience that awful framerate that seems to creep up in Reach from time to time? All these unnecessary armor effects contribute to this. The game must support all these frivolous pixels to be animated. Coupled with the 300 little green shrubs that cover the grass area on Asylum and forge world maps, armor effects just add to the framedrop that hinders the gaming experience.

Remove them all, once and for all. I would rather play a game that flows well, and not hear “YAYAYYAYAYAA” for a change.

343i, please make a game that isn’t suited for four year-olds in future endeavours.

agreed. Armor effects could have been cool but they made them so lame…

hearts? really?

grunt birthday would be neat if it was only on headshot deaths but every single death?

incliment weather and flood could have been neat as well but hey are so underdone and as such are not cool. and if they really affect game performance should not be in at all

You can’t completely fix something that was broken to begin with in the first place.

Let’s just pray these entities aren’t in Halo 4.

Agreed

You have been spreading sunshine all day.

> You have been spreading sunshine all day.

Just trying to help out 343i. They could make this game better for us if they wanted to.

Well, if 343 removes armor effects, then they DARN BETTER REFUND OUR CREDITS. Otherwise alot of people have wasted (if they got all armor effects) a total of 2,500,000 credits. And the ones who preordered the Legendary edition to get Legendary Flames should get a credit refund too, otherwise they would be screwed over. And Eternal, Bungie’s last reward, people certainly deserve a refund from that. It was Bungie’s last gift, and if 343 takes that away, then they darn better replace it with significant credits.

I want all gimmicks out. Things such as; forge, equipment, dual wielding, AAs, armor effect, armor customization, online stats etc. because none of them are beneficial for gameplay and they force developers to stray away from pulling entire emphasis on gameplay.

This is satire… right?

Yes, but they’re not going to take armor effects out of Reach. Use them to your advantage for now.

Discussing the reasons they should be left out of Halo 4 would be better.

Just sayin’.

Ok, equiment and AAs, sure they can go, dual weilding, maybe, but armor customization, here to stay.

And as for forge…ARE YOU MAD?

When the Armor Effects were actually unveiled, I remember my brother and I having a conversation about them. The discussion boiled down to us agreeing that the frame rate and gameplay would benefit from their removal. Our solution was to allow a setting/preference that let users toggle the inclusion of Armor Effects in their multiplayer matches. It would be another menu item that looked something like the following:

Armor Effects: Displayed/Hidden

With a simple click, gamers could decide whether or not hearts, fire, lightning, or the plague filled their screens. Personally, I care not for the armor effects. If someone chooses to use them, so be it. Armor effects will continue to assist me with call-outs unless the entire team uses the same item (EX: Lightning has Rockets!). I, however, would love to avoid them entirely.

First, equipment, Dual Wielding and AAs are actually part of gameplay, and thus effort put towards them is effort put into gameplay elements. Forge is a wonderful feature of Halo and should be present in all games in the series. It allows players to create their own gameplay experiences and share them with friends. Cosmetics were also a welcome feature when they came into the series in Halo 3. Online stats is another thing that’s not a gimmick, it adds a competitive experience to the game itself. It is commonplace for players to compete for K/D, kills with a certain weapon, etc.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! XD

Thank you that made my day!

What are you talking about? Reach IS a gimmick!

Behold, a gimmickless Halo. At least as I see how “gimmicks” work.

I do like the idea of choosing to see others display their bling or not. But I do wonder why a player would want to be more easily seen in the first place.

> What are you talking about? Reach IS a gimmick!

Haha, can’t argue with that!

if removing armor effect can even slightly help making max-local-players to 4 then I am totally for it.

Playing with friends > Dolling Up.

You guys really need to stop calling fun things that help people gimmicks…I have never experienced screen lag due to anything but glass pieces and…you guessed it, lag. People with bad connections. Armor Effects don’t really add to it…that being said, I’ve never been in a game with everyone having Inclement Weather…

AAs aren’t gimmicks. If that guy beat you because he had evade …you suck. Plain and simple. He can’t turn or shoot while he’s evading, you can. Plus, you have your own AA…jetpack away. Sprint away. Confuse him with your own evade. Use Camo or Hologram to prevent the issue from even happening. Pop quickly into AL to give you a quick breather and chance to find him.
If you got killed in close quarters by someone with AL you suck. Back up, it isn’t that hard.
If you got killed by someone jetpacking, next time find cover (there is plenty of bridges and rocks to hide under/behind on EVERY MAP!! Jetpacks don’t break map control, they enhance by adding another dimension–yes, but adding MORE SKILL to defending your map control.
Camo jams radar. If you see a bunch of red dots on your map, be carefull and quit whining.
Hologram, well, is underpowered.
Sprint…honestly? Quit complaining. It’s Sprint. What do you want it to do–make you go slower?

AAs are devices to make the game easier to pick yet harder to master–isn’t that what everyone wanted? Not to mention flying around with a jetpack/evading off ledges/fooling around with hologram/dropping drop shields/sneaking in camo is just plaing FUN. Isn’t that what videogames are about?

Same with equipment…

Stop whining people. You find the stupidest, most illogical things to complain about.

P.S., when I said if whatever killed you you suck, that meant exclusively because of the AA used…I don’t mean every time someone who evaded killed you, I just mean when he evades and you completely lose him…and of course, I use hyperbole. Too big of word? Look it up.
