Remove AA, return of equipment and sprint

This is not a SPRINT discussion so if you’re going to just talk about sprint don’t reply. This thread is to see what effects the golden triangle of Halo which is guns, melee, and grenades. Every successful Halo game has to some extent respected the triangle, but Bungie defiled it with Reach. Nothing in game play should effect the golden triangle. I’m going to discus what should stay and what should go. Also a key note to remember some equipment breaks the triangle and should not return. While some armor abilities do not effect the triangle and should stay but should be brought back under the title as equipment/map pickups. Equipment should also be visible on the Spartan/Elite to remove the Rock Paper Scissors feel, and allow the player to be tactical on how he/she wishes to take down their opponent.

Halo 3

Bubble shield - should go. Affects gunplay. A free get out of jail card.

Power drain - should stay. Does not affect guns, grenades, or movement.

Portable gravity lift - should stay. Does not affect guns, grenades, or movement.

Trip mine - should stay. Does not affect guns, grenades, or movement. Let’s spice it up a bit, possibly different types?

Regenerator - should stay. Does not affect guns, grenades, or movement.

Flare - a little tricky since in way because it blinds the player effecting gun play. I vote to stay, maybe less of a time stunned though.

Deployable cover - similar to the situation with flare. But I would vote to stay but buff it a bit, as it’s currently useless in Halo 3. Possibly just make the sheild wider and taller.

Radar jammer - needless to say should stay! Does not affect the triangle.

Reach

Jetpack - needs to go, it affects everything in the triangle. Side note it is one of my favorite AA, due to how fast I can move around the map. Extremely game breaking , Halo relies a lot on vertical combat. Also breaks map design. Fun tip - remap you’re buttons (X-> Left Click) so you can Jet pack and shoot.

Armor lock - needless to say needs to go. Affects everything in the triangle. Affects gun play, grenades, and movement (stops movement of gameplay as well, terrible.)

Evade - needs to go. Can run away from enemy fire, and grenades.

Active Camo - Can stay! A Halo classic. Does not effect gun play, grenades or movement.

Sprint - After long thought about it, Sprint should stay. It honestly does not affect gun play, grenades, and movement. But you should be able to sprint while being shot at. Should be a part of regular movement mechanics.

Halo 4

Hardlight Shield - very similar to deploy able cover to in Halo 3. Maybe combine the two to create a new version of it. Should stay, but preferably as a drop not something you carry.

Hologram - should stay! Doesn’t affect the triangle.

Promethean Vision - should stay! Doesn’t affect the triangle.

Thruster Pack - needs to go. Affects the the triangle way to much ex dogging nades/avoiding gun fights.

Jetpack - needs to go. Game breaking.

Autosentry - should stay! Doesn’t affect the triangle.

Active Camouflage - stay!

Regeneration Field - very awesome compromise from the bubble shield. Should stay!

Halo 5

Thruster pack - needs to go! Effects gun fights and grenades way to much.

Ground pound - can stay but needs to be nurfed and somehow become a map pick up. Wouldn’t mind if it did not return.

Spartan charge - should be removed. Affects movement to much, and does not punish the player for sprinting.

Slide - should stay! Does not affect The triangle to much. Should be apart of regular movement mechanics.

Stabilizer - should stay! High risk, high reward! Leaves you vulnerable. Should be apart of regular movement mechanics.

Clamber - should stay! It’s a nice little feature that I’ve grown to like in Halo. Should be part of regular movement mechanics.

Create new equipment as well 343i show us what the new engine can do!

Something I’d like Infinite to improve upon from past Halo games:
Interactive Environments - something I loved from Halo 4 and Halo 2A. Also add a little bit of more destructible environments! Very sad to see none of this present in Halo 5.
Automatics - Halo was always been dominated by the BR/DMR. Lets bring a significant buff and show some love for the mighty AR. Let’s make some awesome CQB combat.

Mostly agree with you

You got very good points there but few things I Disagree.
Just few point:

  • Sprint should go, it messes up the map dynamics, there is no need for sprint coz we should have vehicles and gravity lift etc. in maps to compensate the ‘‘slow’’ movement speed. I just see no use for sprint.
  • The point you bring up on the map pickups is good and should be implemented in game again.
  • Thruster pack should stay coz it gives that little bit of evade/boost to move behind the cover from direct fire and/or grenades or chase that one player that is low on health.
  • Clamber, Stabilazer, Ground pound, Slide should go: They are just unnecessary movement tech (Halo 5 Truth is good example of this it was just scaled bigger to compensate all the extra movement).
  • I personally liked Halo 5 AR was good all rounder but not the best in one situation.

BUT The golden triangle is not Guns, Movement, Granades. It is Guns, Melee, Granades.

I would like to say how well the post aged. Secondly it looks like the triangle will be respected much more in Infinite which has me hyped.
