For those unfamiliar with the topic, de-scoping is a feature in Halo. As you are looking through the scope of a sniper rifle, DMR, or in smart-link with any other weapon, you are forced out of it after receiving damage.
Now a lot of people say de-scoping balanced. How can this balance be explained with a valid explanation to support it? Are people so inclined to keeping it because it’s a “classic Halo formula” and nothing more? Are people supporting de-scoping because they believe the person who shoots first should always win?
IMO, I say de-scoping is not balanced because it creates a huge advantage in favor of the one who shot first or sprayed the most often. I don’t call it a fair gunfight when one is handicapped via being de-scoped while the other isn’t effected. What’s wrong with your opponent being able to smart-link while being shot at? Is it that much of a hassle to have an opponent who can fairly fight back?

ive never thought of it as balance. in fact with the focus rifle it was a thing to troll people so much that they removed it in halo 4. its no balanced because people say “well you can stop a sniper from shooting you” my friend, that goes both ways. instead of stopping the sniper, the sniper than instead stops you. and if he already had the drop, you never had a chance of descoping him first. so at the end of the day you are just as equal, if not better off, not being descoped because you aren’t getting knocked out and having to fire at a distance you no longer can see which give the enemy huge advantage. Don’t even get me started of decrouching. tiniest of damage n you stand up like a wack-a-mole ready to be smashed in. i feel if either of these 2 features were to even stay, they’d have to require a damage amount. 50 percent so you can just shoot and spray an SMG or SAW and that 1 bullet, out of a whole clip hits you and you are bumped out of scope and standing up with a big target on you saying this, “hey everyone im a free kill. i would try to either zoom in and fire or crouch for cover but because you keep hitting me i can do neither and only just spray and pray with this dmr and hope for the best.”
It’s also the problem with sprinting now. you can shoulder charge n enemy you are shooting at and you cant recharge shields while running. they basically make it so, once they see you, your dead. no chance of parkouring and using crazy maneuvers at that point to do a super cool turn around. back in Halo Reach you could even stop the sword from hitting you will a melee and only takes the shields so you have to strike 2 times to kill. making the sword useless as you both hurt each other n lose shields so all he has to do is melee as well or shoot you with a headshot and you both die. its because people want to feel like if they already starting hurting you they: dont want you to be able to zoom back and fire, dont want you to crouch for cover, dont want you to be able to run for cover n heal, or be able to run at all and to especially be able to charge. once they start shooting you they want you to have the disadvantage and forced to fight back and rarely do you get the reversal only if you use other tactics at that point. like toss a grenade where he is running and hope he is an idiot to fall for his own stupidity to run there and than headshot him if that doesnt kill him but takes out his shields. but ya i have never liked these things. i think it should be more challenging to not have them. so you have a more difficult skill fight. even in SWBFEA they left you do all of this. you can run n heal, getting hit while running doesnt stop you, you dont get descoped or decrouched, etc and its still fun and it presents a challenge and if you are a good player you can still kill the person you got the drop on.
it is balanced because when there is no de-scoping there is flinch and flinch is terrible because it becomes whoever can get lucky with the cross-hairs being where they want it to be.
Gives people a chance, if they happen to catch a guy shooting at them and need to spray AR rounds at them for just long enough to get cover. To counteract this, shooting someone slows them down, to favor the scoped attacker.

i hated that in halo 4. why not be like other FPS and just let the scoped person shoot, not knocking them out of scope (Halo halo FPS’s except Halo 4) or knocking up their scope (Halo 4)
If you strafe and continue to try and scope in for a shot on someone at range you’ll end up getting the upper hand regardless of who shot first. I’d take descope over flinch any day. Flinch is random and descope isn’t
If getting des coped means you are handicapped, then you aren’t playing good enough. Simple as that. Balance is one of the very few things 343 has improved and done well.
De-scoping was brought back to prevent the game from being a complete and total BR campfest like it was in 4. Keeps the game varied, so everyone is moving around, trying to get kills, rather than just hiding somewhere and battling it out long-range.
two things to consider, de-scoping keeps snipers, beam rifles and other large power weapon users from having nothing to stop them from shooting you dead, getting shot at by a sniper? put a few bullets his way and he’ll have to readjust his aim giving you time to run away. and number two. could you shoulder a gun and aim down it properly if you just got shot? didnt think so

I though I remembered getting descoped as well though

That’s called flinch, and that is random. Random things aren’t exactly fair. Who would you rather blame? Yourself and your skill or the RNG on your sniper shot?
