Remember When BTB Had Vehicular Focus?

Okay, before anyone says “Halo 5’s BTB has vehicle battles”, yes, it does, but barely. Let my try to explain my point.

I remember playing Halo 2, Halo 3, a little of CE, Reach and even Halo 4 BTB, and I remember tons of vehicular transport, Warthog chasing, Tank battles, Bashees in the air throwing bombs at each other, Mantises on each team battling it out, while whatching out for Hogs or Banshees in Ragnarok, among other examples.

Now, I know Halo 5’s BTB has vehicles, but I don’t know if it’s because of the small amount of vehicles present or the awful maps, but I just can’t see the same explosive action from other incarnations of BTB. For example, in many maps, the point is to fight over ONE heavy vehicle (I’m not talking about being the objective of the match, but to the fact that in order to get a vehicle you have to fight for it). In Eecurve it was the Tank (now the Gausshog), in Entombed it is the Wraith. We are lucky to get one ghost and one Gungoose for each team, and maybe the extreme case is Basin, having a Rockethog, Ghost, and Gungoose for each team. But there’s not anything like previous games. Also, the maps are (or at least it feels like that to me) extremely small, I know most of you are probably bored to death from reading about Bloodgulch/Hemorrage, etc. But that was a great map for vehicular gameplay, I actually loved it in Reach, each team riding in Mongooses, Ghosts, Revenants, Warthogs and Wraiths from each side was totally amazing, and the map felt HUGE, same with Longbow in Halo 4 (from which Recurve is based of and it’s just a joke compared to the original), Boneyard, etc.

God, even if there are vehicles sometimes it seems 343i just put them there for the sake of having a vehicle in map, again Entombed comes to my mind, what the hell’s up with the Wraith in there, you just can’t move from the spawning area, it’s just like a small corridor, even if you can, by the time you manage to do it you have been gunned down or something.

TL;DR: Vehicular battles are almost non-existent in Halo 5 BTB, and if there are any, are extremely stripped down from previous incarnations of Halo, along with awful maps (that’s not news).

So, what do you guys think? Do yo miss vehicle battles or not?

The vehicles are mostly fine in vehicle vs vehicle conflict. However; the maps are too cluttered for tank battles now.

Yeah, maybe it’s just me, but anyways, my point is that there just aren’t to many encounters in vehicles, as I said, mostly is just one or two vehicles per team, and those being Ghosts or Gungooses, one of each… and of course what you said, the maps are to clutered so even having two per team is too complicated in the battlefield

100% correct. Although I expect that this is intentional. I think BTB maps are intentionally constricted and vehicles are thin on the ground so that people who want large-scale, vehicular game play will find their way to Warzone. If someone had told me on October 26th that Halo 5 would be this way then I would have said it was a huge mistake on the part of 343. Now, in retrospect, I think it was a smart decision. Of course, it wouldn’t kill them to make some proper BTB maps, and maybe even throw in a Heavies game type, but I can’t say that Warzone doesn’t scratch that itch, at least for me.

I’m on the fence here. It frustrates me how vehicles are so fragile in Halo 5, but then I remember how Reach was the exact opposite. Back in the day, vehicles were pretty much impervious to regular weapons. In Hemorrage, the team who lost their vehicles first would inevitably lose the match because their wasn’t anything else reliable enough to take down the other team’s vehicles. In Invasion, people would camp right next to the Banshee spawn because it was so OP that whoever got it first was almost guaranteed to win.

The warzone maps don’t really make for great vehicular battles. Although, Battle of Noctus isn’t bad. They need a nice tasty vehicle map for BTB. Actually they should have a separate playlist for BTB based on vehicles. That would be nice.
Battlefield always had their tank battle maps, air battle game mode etc, That would be nice to have in Halo, I could be wrong.

Warzone certaily does compensate, but the REQ system makes it a bit more complicated than just focusing on grabbing an available vehicle that just spawned and continue the carnage, also having to take into account that a vehicle in WZ costs you Cards

Yes, I didn’t even consider that issue.

Maybe balacing out by adding some propper anti-vehicle weapons? I for example see the Spartan Laser in Deadlock pretty useless, I rarely see it used to destroy moving vehicles, people mostly uses it to kill Spartans

Sounds great, but somehow I don’t see them implementing this :frowning:

Hasn’t been the same since 4. Good vehicle combat in that, but the vehicles were paper. It was so much fun in 2,3, & Reach. Now BTB has been basically reduced to being irrelevant and non existent. Sucks

Really? I find it damn-near impossible to hit a Spartan with the laser. Anyway, I think that 343 thought that vehicles were overpowered in the older Halo games so they nerfed them when they made Halo, but it seems like they took it too far. The upgraded vehicles in Warzone (Such as the Sword covenant vehicles, and the urban/corp UNSC vehicles) have just the right amount of armor. They don’t blow up too quickly, and at the same time they don’t consistently steamroll entire teams so maybe vehicles in BTB could be replaced by upgraded versions used in Warzone.

Why did Big Team Battle took out the Mantis? Also why is there no BTB Heavies?

Well that was exactly my point lol, people use it to kill Spartans and that’s the worst thing to do, I can’t hit one, at all… But because theres almost no vehicular use, people use it that way… Also, why waste a Spartan Laser shot on a Warthog if it blows up in 5 seconds with sustained fire? /: I also think that they nerfed them little too much, such a shame

People go for the Wraith on Entombed?
Every time I charge for it Im un-opposed…only to have the ENTIRE ENEMY TEAM decide I need to die.

LOL, haha, that’s what I meant, I usually go for it, and I start to get shot, A LOT, but what bugs me is that it is pretty useless, sure, you can get kills with it, thats a fact, but you are restricted to that small area between four “walls” you can’t get out of there, so if the heat of the battle is by the hill on the other side, you are left alone with yourself

Yea, I miss the old days. We need maps like halo 2 and 3, With more vehicles. just add a ton of power weapons, so it can be balanced.

If you could bring one BTB map from any previous game, which would you chose? I think any of them would be better than what we have now
