Looking at the incredible wealth of knowledge opened up to us in the last year, I decided to look back at what some people thought Halo was…
The Forerunners created The Flood.
Absurd, now. As we know that the Flood was an exo-galactic entity, it came from nowhere and decimated the Forerunners. I remember thinking (Thanks to Internet forums like Bungie.net) that the Forerunners, in their quest for knowledge and godliness, created The Flood as an experiment. That experiment got out of hand and the First Halo Event took place.
The Forerunners were the Gods
Seeing as we knew nothing of the Precursors, a lot of us had the idea that the Forerunners were the galaxies Gods. They gave life, took life, and shaped the Universe in their image. We now know, however, that they were the possible starchild of a powerful, universe-ruling species called Precursors. This turned many a theory on its head.
The Forerunners became humanity.
This was not as common, but it was out there. The theory was that humanity were ‘The Children of the Forerunners’ according to the Gravemind. The theory was that the Forerunners evolved (probably de-evolved) themselves into us, to ensure that we could access their galactic technology and thus their empire only when we were ready.
Forerunners first contact with humans were with primitive, animal-like humans.
This conflicted with the first theory, but it as still a theory. The Forerunners came across a small, backwater planet called Earth. Earth was home to many interesting creatures, with bizarre and bewildering ecosystems and animals. Among these animals were a simple race of humanoids called -Yoink!- Erectus. The Forerunners (The Librarian especially) watched these primitive men and thought of them as ‘special.’ After much (or little as said by some) thought, the Librarian decided that Humanity would inherit their empire.
These old theories were very interesting, what do you think of these?

It was on bungie. I remember when people where going around talking about it in astonishing detail (since there was a lack of) how miranda is (not could be) halseys daughter and i remember thinking they are crazy since there isn’t nearly enough information or even anything hinting at it.
I am glad i kept those words to myself and didn’t say anything because i am sure they were so happy to be correct. Hell, i would pin the medal on them myself if i could remember any of the people that were serious about that back in the day.

I personally liked these better. The Forerunner Saga kind of ruined the original allure of the Forerunners. Used to be, whenever I heard the Forerunners mentioned, I immediately cued the wide-eyed look of awe. Now, the Forerunners seem to be a collection of the galaxy’s biggest Yoink!s
