Guys, Halo 3’s community used to be so huge. Everybody loved customizing armors from Hayabusa to Security to Rogue. But only 0.001% of the entire multiplayer population had Recon Armor. IT WAS SUCH A THRILL to get matched up on the same team as somebody with recon before HALO 3: ODST came out. It was also a thrill to try and achieve the armor by being innovative in Halo 3.
I remember the first time I got paired up with a kid with recon armor on my team. It was team doubles blackout and I just followed him around the damn map drooling over the fact he had reconz. Haha good times.
Wouldn’t it be amazing to see a legendary armor in Halo: Infinite like how Halo 3 had with Reconz?
I really enjoyed the concept of Recon in Halo 3. I actually don’t even remember being matched with someone with Recon in MP, but it was so amazing whenever someone who did something cool was awarded with it and showed it off online. It was just so rare before the vidmaster achievements. And even to this day I’m still missing one or two of those so I never got it in Halo 3.
And while H3 Recon was about doing something cool or specific achievements, it was fun to try and get it. I remember trying the ODST firefight one with my best friend at the time couch co-op and while we failed (If I remember correctly) it was still really fun. H5’s Achiles was a decent try at something like recon, but flawed in it’s conception. It made people design strategies that ruined Warzone for a lot of players, and was designed so that you needed to be grinding in a spartan company. Personally I really dislike this approach, as some people just like playing with close friends or solo. Then, there were cases of people getting booted from companies right before the goals were met just to piss them off, and your progress wouldn’t be recorded, if I remember correctly, making all your grind for nothing. Or you’d be away for like a week because of IRL stuff and people would boot you because you weren’t active, and they needed active people for the community grind.
I feel like it artificially brought people together, not because they wanted to, but because they “needed” to. With Achilles , a lot of people weren’t/aren’t playing together for fun, it’s just for the grind.
To me, Recon was different. People wanted to make cool stuff together, not just for Recon itself, but because they wanted to make something cool and have fun.
So yeah, we definitely need something cool like Recon again. Something that brings the community together because they want to, not because they “need” to grind for it.
PS: H3 Recon is also visually way cooler than Achilles.
As long as it can be unlocked in the future way after the game is past it’s prime all fine by me. But I would personally prefer Mark VI so I’m a bit indifferent =P.
I feel like it would be better implemented as Bungie had originally implemented Recon. Developer only. If you saw someone in it originally , you knew it was a Bungie employee.
That said , I wouldn’t mind an armor made for the community to act as some type of “distinguished service medal” or some such , it certainly draws a creative crowd and seems a more natural way to help lengthen the life span of a game.

Eh, honestly, I didn’t like How Bungie made it easy to acquire Recon after halo 3’s peak. I mean, beating bungie members on bungie day was kind of cool haha. But the ODST Achievements ruined its worth.

I’m happy you got a thrill and were genuinely impressed by having a recon wearer on your team. My view of it was a little different 99% of the time. I remember recon players getting hunted down and t bagged for being given recon, pretty pathetic imo, but I’m told it happened with achilles too.
I’m all for armour unlocks, but it needs to be something that can be obtained by everyone in a fair way. I saw tons of clips put up by players that wanted recon, most never got it, but the clips showed they deserved it. I think they should have armour linked to achievements or zero point achievements / events, or similar activities.

But the challenges themselves were difficult. Annual, Endure, etc.
But what I mean is to not to the same as Halo 3’s Recon: don’t tie it to your company or whatever, so if there’s a license transfer, the helmet won’t be unattainable forever. It sucks ALOT if you wanted to unlock Recon only to find out it’s literally impossible.

I mean, had Bungie not made Recon unlockable through Vidmasters, it would’ve been effectively impossible to get after attention shifted from Halo 3 to Reach. And to be honest, I think that’s fine. I don’t think everybody needs to be able to unlock all cosmetics in a game. Sure, if it’s based on completing some well defined task, like the Vidmasters, then anyone who completes that task should always be able to get the armor, no matter when they do it. However, if it’s a “we give it to you if we think you deserve it” type of deal, then I think it’s absolutely fine that getting it becomes impossible when the developers decide to stop giving it away.
I hope Halo Infinite has some Incredibly difficult armour sets to unlock like recon, but I also hope that the RNG system is eliminated at least for character and emblem customisation. Unlocks should be earned through gameplay challenges and not because the RNG seed happened to be 3726 and decides to give you Helljumper out of the blue

Yes, not 350 different types of helmets that are unlocked by req packs. Maybe 20 cool unlocksvlrlooking armors and of cour
Jesus Christ no, Halo 3 Mythics’s unlocking system was and still is the most difficult and complexed to this day. I feel like Halo Infinite will be some sort of combination of loot crates and normal unlocks, some may even be limited time
I think part of the appeal for Recon was that there were only a few armor sets in 3. I remember how obvious it was when someone had it, as opposed to 5 where there’s so many sets its hard to tell them apart (especially since a lot of them look the same.
One thing I’ve asked for is Vidmasters thats all I want, sense of achievement of completing cross game challenge was great I met a lot of new people and still in contact with them to this day even after getting Recon I loved to keep doing the challenges
I would like there to be some kind of completionist reward where past accomplishments in Halo games were recognized. Or a proper reward for obtaining SR 152 in Halo 5.
I made a thread a year or so back about this, but I suggested that Chief’s Halo 4 armor would be the reward. Some didn’t like it because they wanted Chief to be unique, but now that he’s getting different armor, I think the recon of Infinite could be his halo 4 armor. I hope they don’t pretend like that armor didn’t happen.

I couldn’t agree more with this statement. Nobody cares about what armor you have in halo 5 because there’s 250 different helmets. Where as Halo 3 only had 10-15. And each had challenges to unlock.

But I’d much rather have the Halo 5 amount of armor than Halo 3. I don’t care what everyone else thinks of my armor, but i want to have as many armor/helmet and customization options as possible. I do however agree with a halo 3 or even reach style way of unlocking them rather than the rng packs. What it boils down to for me is I’m creating my spartan and i want to have the options to make him unique not look like every other player out there cause theres only 10 options.
