Remakes and Successors: Give them a new coat of paint

A big number of people in the halo forum community want remakes/spiritual succesors of some of the best maps in halo history. I do support this but i also think that only a small percent of the maps should be remakes, for instance if we had 10 maps in all, maybe just around 1 or 2. But going back to topic, i believe that the best way to handle a remake is to (and it might sound strange) go as far as the original design as they possibly can.

Here are a few for instances to get my point across:

Lets say the community wants a blood gulch/valhalla remake (or spiritual succesor). Instead of going with the old “inside a canyon, pine tree forest, and green grass design”, why not shake it up a bit. How about making the gulch into, for instance, an island! This map would still keep the same elements of the original but have an enitrely new theme to it. the canyon turns into an island in the middle of an ocean, the green grass accompanies white sand, and the pines bemcome palms.

How about a remake of the old community favorite sandtrap? We could keep its core elements, the structures, elephants ect. but give it a new theme. I once suggested a jungle theme would fit nice for sandtrap. The desert could be replaced by dense foilage, the structures could have a nice grey (aztec-esqe) design, there could be dirt roads, and the elephants could be givin jungle camo paint jobs

Now lets go with High ground. Instead of its original savannah like style, why not snow it over and give it a new “rocky alps” design, or if they were making it a spiritual successor, make the map bigger and refit it for invasion. High ground (to me) had always had elements that would make it a good invasion map.

So this it the way i’d handle remakes/spiritual succesors. My questions to you are:

do you like this?

What do you like about this idea?

If you could come up with your own remake with a humongous change to the design, what would it be?

Nice… thats how it should work.

thanks, i thought it might get people to like old maps if they were given " a new coat of paint" so to say.

I’d like them to remake Halo 2 maps that haven’t been remade yet. Like Turf, Terminal, Containment and/or Waterworks, but in the style you suggest remakes should be handled. =)
