Release Notes for Waypoint Mobile 1.1

HALO WAYPOINT 1.1 - WINDOWS PHONE 7

RELEASE NOTES
The 1.1 update of Halo Waypoint for Windows Phone 7 adds two new big features:

  • Xbox Live Friends and Messaging
  • Halo: Reach Service Record

XBOX LIVE FRIENDS AND MESSAGES

The 1.1 update enables the Friends and Messages buttons in Halo Waypoint, which previously appeared ‘locked.’

Tap on Friends to see a real-time listing of all your Xbox LIVE Friends, including their Gamertag, their Gamerpic, and current Presence information, which lets you know if they are online and which game they are playing.

From Messages, you can see your Xbox LIVE message inbox, and you can compose and send messages to a friend or to any Xbox LIVE gamer.

HALO: REACH SERVICE RECORD
You will also notice from the 1.0 version of the app is the “Service Record” panel. This panel shows a high level summary of your progression in Halo: Reach and includes the following components:

  • Xbox LIVE Gamertag, Halo: Reach Emblem and Service Tag
  • Halo: Reach Spartan Armor (expandable to view full image)
  • Current Rank and progress towards next Rank
  • Battle Proficiency Rating (BPR)
  • K/D (Kill / Death ratio) for Matchmaking Multiplayer
  • Armory % completion, Commendations % completion
  • Stats, Challenges, Game History dive-in buttons

Battle Proficiency Rating (BPR) details:

  • BPR Is a number between 1 and 100
  • It represents a player’s overall skill in Halo: Reach’s Multiplayer mode
  • It tracks your Kills, Wins, Assists, Deaths, and Betrayals
  • You need to play at least ten Invasion, Arena, or Competitive games

STATS SECTION
In the Stats section of Halo Waypoint, you can view summaries of stats numbers across the many game modes, maps, and playlists from Halo: Reach. This section is divided into three panels, which you can pan between by swiping left or right:

Stats Summary:

  • This sub-section shows you a list of relevant ‘numbers’ for whatever filters you have chosen.
  • By default you will see the stats for “All Games,” with no filters applied.
  • The type of numbers you see listed here include Playtime, High Scores, Kills, Deaths, Games played, etc.
  • You can narrow down which Stats you want to see by applying Filters (see Filters section below).

Weapons: This sub-section shows you an ordered list of the Weapons you use for the given set of filters, ordered by number of Kills with that weapon (descending).

Enemies: This sub-section shows you an ordered list of the Enemies you have slain for the given set of filters. They are ordered in descending order by how many you have killed.

When “All Games” is selected (as opposed to Invasion, Competitive, Arena, etc.), the view in Stats Summary is divided into three chunks of numbers:

  • Overall: Shows global stats that apply across all game types and includes Stats like Total Games, Armory Completion, Challenges completed, etc.
  • Multiplayer: These numbers are aggregated from Invasion, Arena, Competitive and Custom Multiplayer games. They include stats like Total Games, Wins, Losses, Kills, Deaths, etc. for those modes.
  • Campaign/Firefight: As the name suggests, these numbers aggregate totals from Campaign and Firefight games, including High Scores, Total games, Kills, Deaths, etc.

FILTERS

There are two buttons that you can use to set filters in the Stats Summary section: the “All Games” button and the “Filters” button.

Tapping the “All Games” button allows you to choose from a specific game mode: Invasion, Competitive, Arena, Campaign, Firefight and Custom. You can also keep the filter set to “All Games” from the list.

The “Filters” button brings up a popup that allows you to pick a specific Map, Playlist or Difficulty as additional filters.

Some notes:

  • Filters can only be set globally, meaning that once you set a filter, it applies to all three sections equally.
  • Not all filters are available for every mode. For example, Difficulty filters only apply to Campaign and Firefight.
  • You cannot filter by Map AND Playlist, only one OR the other.
  • Changing the Game Mode (e.g. from All Games to Invasion) resets the rest of the filters.

COMPARE
From the Stats section you can also compare to a friend or other Halo: Reach player. Just tap the Compare button and either select a friend or type in a gamertag to look up. You will see a side by side listing of your Stats, with highlights for the ones that you are ‘better’ at:

CHALLENGES SECTION

This section shows your overall completed Weekly and Daily Challenges, as well as your current progress with the active challenges.

For each active challenge you will see:

  • Challenge type icon
  • Challenge name and description
  • Progress bar
  • Time Remaining

GAME HISTORY SECTION

Game History allows you to see the last 100 games that you have played. The games are grouped by Date, and sorted by time, with the most recent ones showing up first (at the top).

You can apply a filter of Game Mode to the Game History, which by default is set to “All Games”. You can change this to Invasion, Arena, Competitive, Campaign, Firefight or Custom.

There is also a refresh button so that you can see new games pop in to the list if you just played them.

Each individual game listed is itself a button, which you can tap to see the detailed box score for that game.

In the box scores you will see a breakdown by team and/or player, which shows some of the most relevant Stats results (Score, Kills, Deaths, etc.). You will also see the Playlist, Game Type, Map Name, Duration, and the corresponding Game Mode icon (e.g. Invasion, Arena, etc.).

Hi guys, I am the Producer for the Windows Phone 7 version of Waypoint. Thank you very much for your comments and feedback!

Our mission is to constantly refine and evolve Waypoint, so your input helps us make decisions of what things to prioritize, improve or reconsider.

Regarding two of the comments so far:

> I personally would love to see the ability to save Waypoint vids to our phone to be able to view whilst not connected to service or WiFi.
>
> Other than that… Good GOD, I’m loving the update…
>
> Grim

That would be nice! The challenge here is that we use video streaming technology, so we don’t currently have a direct link to a downloadable file. However, we may consider enabling something like this, at least for key videos, in a future release.

> Are we going to get the option to view halo achievements, leader bored, milestone. Like the xbox version has to both window phone 7 and this site. This is a part of your individual stats and career of Halo, and it be awsome to show your friends when you don’t have the xbox with you.

Great question. As you can imagine, there are tons of things we want to add to the experience, but we have to do it in steps so that we can actually get updates out to you guys with some regularity.

The theme for our first mobile release (1.0) was all around making our rich Waypoint media content available (videos, galleries, podcasts, articles, blogs). Then the theme for the first update (1.1) was about Friends, Messaging and Stats.

Achievements and milestones are definitely in our internal ‘to do’ list for future updates, and feedback like this helps us confirm that we should be looking at those areas.

Again, thanks for your input, and please keep letting us know what’s on your mind!
