Regular Warzone tips for randoms

Hey guys,
So Halo 5 was the first FPS I played online (I had played all the other games’s campaigns and local coops), and I had a super strong learning curve because of some of the really good players. I originally played Arena (which is why my KD is under 1 since I don’t play it now), but I later switched to WZ. At least in WZA and WZFF you have objectives so you don’t need a Mic, but WZ can be extremely difficult to play as a random. It can suck to be double or triple capped, and these are some tips I have after playing as a random myself and managing to keep an almost 50% win percentage. Nothing feels better than beating a good company while you’re with randoms, except you won’t beat Dominated - ever - kudos to them

OPENING STRATEGIES
One thing that sets the tone for the whole game is how the game opens. Here are some things I think help on a few maps
Battle of Noctus
- Push to the Monument as quickly as you can. Let other teammates get the boss (there will always be someone who does this). While going to the monument, watch out for enemies on the bottom ramps, and if you are taking the bridges watch out for enemy spartans camping behind and above your entrance to the monument. A good idea can be to spawn a warthog and get a gunner and try to cut off the enemies pushing the monument. Most players won’t have BRs yet.
Attack on Sanctum

  • Like before, ignore the bosses and push to either the top of Temple or the enemies’s garage. If you get to the top of the temple you can cut off the enemies coming in from the bottom. Be sure to make sure you don’t meet an enemy company by yourself up there. If you go to the garage, usually there are two or three enemy spartans there. You can use the AIs in the base to help you kill them (it takes most players a second to realize a Spartan is shooting at them vs and AI), or you can hide in the garage to delay them capping. If you can keep them from capping they have to spawn from home base which takes nearly twice as long to get to the Temple, which gives your team time to cap.
    Skirmish at Darkstar
  • This map has very few AIs in the Fortress, so if you can get there you might be able to kill them and start capping by yourself. If you do this, more than likely teammates will see the cap starting and rush there. Usually players are too caught up in killing the Promethean scout and capping their own Armory.

MID GAME

Triple Cap
If you triple cap a team, I would recommend just coring them if you can. No one likes to be farmed, and I usually core because I know how it sucks if you’re on the receiving end.

Double Cap
If you manage to double cap both your armory and the center base make sure to hold them as best you can. If you can hold them both all game, you only need one or two major boss kills to win.

Single Cap
If you only get your armory, you need to make sure you hold on to it. On most maps you can try to cap the other team’s armory, and depending on the team you might be able to do this. If you do only single cap, make sure not to always spawn in the armory and rush out. You don’t want to feed the other team kills because they’ll req up faster. Instead sometimes spawn home base or spawn armory and use a side route to get out. If you’ve single capped, you can still win by killing all 3 high point bosses and your low point bosses. If you manage two caps after the initial one cap this can go either way, as your team may get split up, or you might manage to split up and trap the other team in the center base.

No Cap
If you get triple capped, this really sucks. Against a good team you’ll never get out of the base and cap, as they’ll call you out, and it’s nearly impossible to kill several spartans who have more reqs. You might be able to cap the FAR armory, as the other team will be spawning in your armory by default. There’s also a chance you can cap the center base if the team is not paying attention. If the other team doesn’t let you out and starts farming, the best thing you can do is use your 60 second spawn time. If half your players quit (which is likely in a triple cap), the other team will get bored not having any kills and more than likely core you. If you keep spawning and rushing the team you’ll just prolong the game because the other team will be getting free kills.

BOSS KILLING
Regardless of how the game is shaping, boss kills can dictate who wins and who gets more reqs. If you single cap and manage most of the boss kills and all the major boss kills you’ll win if you can hold your base. You’ll also req up fast as a team (boss kills support the whole team, while spartan kills only help the individuals involved). Most of the bosses have little tricks you can use that require one hit or shot.

Elite Bosses: There are many 25 point elite bosses on most maps, and then Attack on Sanctum and March on Stormbreak both have 100 point elite bosses. If you can, the easiest way to kill an elite is to splatter it with a ghost or warthog. This works for the 100 point boss on Stormbreak. If you can’t splatter, such as Jul 'Mdama, all it takes is one headshot to kill him when his shield is gone. You can wait till the enemy kills his shield, or you can deplete it yourself with energy swords. Once his shield is low I always switch to a BR and start pelting his head.

Soldier Bosses: Like elites, the easiest way to kill a soldier is to splatter him. If this cannot be done, the next easiest thing is to beat him down or melee him. The 100 point boss on Darkstar can be killed with a beatdown as soon as he spawns. Just make sure you get there at the last second and aren’t on the platform too early, as enemy spartans are more than likely to see and kill you. Camo also works to get this boss.

Wraith/Ghost Bosses: Probably the easiest way to kill a wraith or ghost is with a vehicle, such as tank or wraith. If you have too few reqs the level 4 needler can take down a ghost, and the regular splaser can take down a wraith in one or two shots if you hit it in the back.

Hunter Bosses: I don’t really know a quick way to kill hunters, except tanks, banshees, rockets, and fuel rods. Plasma casters and Endgames are also pretty destructive

Knights: You can kill a knight with almost full health by meleeing him in the back when his two “wings” are gone. To get rid of the two wings quickly, use the level 1 and 2 Suppressor and lock on to the glowing circles on his wings. Once you destroy the second side, he’ll scream which gives you time to jump over him and punch him one time in the bright circle on his back. You can also hide behind him and let him face the enemies if they are attacking him, and the split second he’s vulnerable spartan charge him (don’t assassinate him, as you’ll be killed by the enemy).

Grunt Jockey: He really just requires a lot of firepower. Big vehicles and the Answer both do a lot of damage to him. If you get lucky, he will lift his arm up and you can snipe the driver out with a beam rifle.

Wardens: Once the warden’s health is low enough, you can assassinate him, but I would not recommend this unless you have teammates shooting at him. The assassination will kill his health, but it won’t count as the last shot. To damage the warden while his health is high hit him in the black circle on his back.

I hope this is helpful. I know how it feels to be a random at WZ, but you can help shape the game if you play it right. Any feedback or thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks for the effort—I know this took a lot of time and gameplay on your part. Nice overview!
