Regret and the flood?

I’m playing halo wars the definitive edition and I’ve come to ask myself a major question . If the prophet of regret was on shield world and encounterd the flood how come the covenant in halo one are surprised about their existence? Assuming he knows about the existence of the flood prior to the 20 year halo event, the flood would’ve been a documented species. If some covenant forces escaped shield world ( presumably as the prophets escort) would’nt there be shared knowledge of the flood?

Technically the covenant knew about the flood in their religion, in the first Halo novel theres this bit of information.

> “I see you never studied, Commander. They are the Flood, one of the many tests and obstacles we must pass to activate the Holy Rings and begin the Great Journey. They are mentioned in several of our religious texts, but the details are woefully inadequate given current circumstances.”

Would that mean only a handful knew but the rest were kept in a dark? The covenant is a very large army yet only the fleet of particular justice seemed very surprise and horrified even in the comics where vadumee watched kusovai turned into a flood.

The flood seem almost a legend to the Covenant. They have fought them before, as the temple wraith claims that zealots alone once had the dubious honor of cleansing ancient relics of flood infection. However it does say this in the distant past. Thus it is likely encounters with the flood were comparatively rare

I start to learn more and more lore even when I feel like I’ve read most of it but that was very insightful

I’m pretty sure that in Halo CE the covenant forces were more terrified by the flood than anything.

Terrified yes but, we never got much of a reaction from the covenant encountering the flood in halo wars. If the flood were well documented into the covenant they’d be more prepared. Instead they reacted in a way that they’ve never encountered the flood though in real world chronology, halo ce came before wars

That’s not true. Halo Wars happened pretty early into the human covenant war. During the second battle of Harvest. All the rest of halo from Reach onwards happened very late into the war. Towards the end, to be precise.
