I was just wondering whether this beta is going to have any kind of regional matchmaking or not. As an Australian, the last thing I want to hear before a game starts is American accents coming from every other player, because it means that my gun is going to be loaded with marshmallows instead of bullets and they’ll all be armed with the golden gun from goldeneye.
I had very few issues like this with the early access beta the other weekend, but with this one, every game so far is full of Americans and I might as well just stand in a corner shouting “Here I am, come and kill me” whilst firing my gun straight down at my own feet.
Hopefully things get better, otherwise I’m just gonna have to cut this beta short and move on.
I keep getting stuck with Russians and Germans. Have yet to see or hear another Aussie, or even an American.
Yeah I should have figured that staying up till 3am would not be worth it. I was hoping that because it’s school holidays, there would be heaps of people playing in Australia… but I guess I was wrong.
I suppose I’ll just wait another 8 hours or so and try again during the day.
Still only getting into games with Americans. It’s either using P2P and matching me with people in the US (which is crap) or it is on dedicated servers and they are only in the US (which is also crap).
I have nothing against Americans, I would just rather play on a connection where everybody is at least on the same continent as I am.
Australia has dedicated servers but to what extent they are been used for us Aussies is hard to tell, so disgusting how people in Aus/NZ wait 10+ years for local servers just to find out that we don’t ever get put on them for Matchmaking.
I find it bizarre that they bother to let people in their betas if they’re not going to implement a ‘local only’ search mode or put us on local servers.
The game ends up being frustrating rather than fun. And in my case, makes it a guarantee that I will wait for word of mouth on the game working smoothly after release before purchasing. I’ve been burnt way too many times at this point, believing in the ‘word’ of these companies who make endless promises (or flat out lie) about the capabilities of their games.
After November, I can honestly say that I won’t be pre-ordering games like before. Between COD:AW, Halo MCC, Unity & Far Cry… any faith I had in AAA studios is well & truly over. I still have yet to be able to connect to & play with a pal online in Halo & Far Cry. And COD is so laggy it’s simply not fun to play.
I noticed all my friends seem to do is scream & swear when we play any of the ‘next gen’ games. We always have problems with somebody’s mic. Or someone not being able to talk to the party. There’s always lag (except with BF4 to be fair. The only game where you can select from a list of local servers) But when we jump on the 360, everybody has a blast. We can party up without all the problems we have on Xbone. We can jump straight into a local game instantly. Hell… even when a ‘local only’ option isn’t there, we still manage to somehow get thrown into a game with the handful of local peeps playing a 5 year old game. And there’s no lag despite the fact that we’re playing p2p & not on dedicated servers. All that on a 7 or 8 year old system.
I really don’t understand how we could have gone backwards so far with this gen. Nothing really works properly. And features that you think would be obvious and/or necessary (& have existed before) are simply not there. I don’t make games, so I don’t have any qualification when it comes to how hard or simple it is to make sure there isn’t an obscene amount of lag. Or to ensure players aren’t kicked from their party upon every search. Or to have regional matchmaking &/or local servers.
But everything that has been coming out from these major studios seems incredibly unprofessional & incompetent. And it’s consistently inept, despite the fact that it’s never been this way in the past. I just don’t understand it.

Yeah, I’ve all but given up on the idea of multiplayer on these next gen (now current gen) consoles.
So far on next gen, the only game that’s been able to deliver a decent multiplayer experience for me is Titanfall. Everything else is either broken or simply forgotten to add in the fun.
I’ll be buying Halo 5 but I don’t see myself spending much, if any, time with the multiplayer side of it unless something drastic happens in the next 12 months to change my mind. That also means there’s no need to buy any DLC or season passes and, therefore, that’s less money for 343.
