The one thing I’m worried about halo 5 is the possibility of halo 5 region locking some country’s like Australia and New Zealand too only play games with each other. This is a new trend in games nowadays with dedicated servers and I’m worried about it hitting halo 5. Does anyone know for a fact region lock won’t be in halo 5?

I’m not sure but I live in Vietnam so I’m a bit worried about this as well. We normally have a really small population of people playing after a few months.
They just unlocked the region locking for Australia in the MCC after the latest patch, so im not sure if they will lock Halo 5.
Also Halo 5 is going to have a far larger player base than the MCC, due to new games selling better than remasters, and the amount of attention Halo 5 is getting is insanely high.
NO - STOP WITH THIS PLEASE
Region lock is an essential feature, and with the Sydney Azure Data Centre providing dedicated servers for all matchmade games in Australia there is NO reason for us Aussies to be forced to play on crappy high latency foreign host!
FFS!
The ONLY reason it was an argument for MCC was because pretty much no one plays MCC in Au, ergo to even find a game they needed to allow Aussies to connect with Americans. I stopped playing because of this but I understood the reasoning behind people wanting to play on foreign host rather than not play at all. H5 is a different ballgame, as stated by the guy above, there will be MORE than enough population to justify NEVER having to put up with foreign host!
H5 will have selectable data centers much like titanfall
While I do not know about the region lock, I saw a tweet that AU players will be matchmade with AU/NZ/Oceania players (I assume this to give a large, speculative player base).
In hindsight, the beta ran perfectly for me, no great lag spikes/problems.
@ThoroIf - While I agree the MCC matchmaking is less than forgiving to us Australians, recently (after the latest patch) it has been better than what it was a year ago (seriously, I got matches sporadically in the first two months of the MCC) and I am now getting games with low lag and fast search times (within like the first 5 mins is good enough for me).
Thanks for all the info guys!
my hype level has returned to extremely high levels

Really? That explains why I am finding games now.
SAY NO TO THE REGION LOCK! JOIN THE TRIAD. SHINE BRIGHT.
Region lock is good with high populations, which is what Australia will have in Halo 5 unlike MCC. Once the population gets too small to find games then they should unlock it

That was the plan, bit they already confirmed now that the game chooses the datacentre to ensure a good experience (it’s really frustrating to play with someone who has a very high ping)

If thats true then it is really really disapointing
I get that matching people from other countries can be frusterating because of lag but realstically that won’t be a huge issue if the game has dedi servers
And at least with selectable servers if say aussie servers were empty for some reason I could choose an asian server or an eu server and not be locked into just
searching…
players found…
searching for more players…
searching…
like I have been in the MCC for the past flipping year
I think it would make sense to region lock it if they wanted to clear lag, it’d suck but it makes sense
That could make companies awkward. I hope they don’t do that.

Like I said, with dedi servers lag -shouldn’t- be an issue, in titanfall I connected to American servers from Australia all the time and didn’t experience any lag what so ever
There needs to be a way to set the servers yourself like in Titanfall. This is my biggest disappointment with Halo 5.
I’ve been playing with the same two guys since Halo Reach was released. These guys are in Kentucky, USA and Edinburgh, Scotland.
We do have lag when we play together but it is always playable at least. Now that I can;t play with these two guys I feel like I should just return the game.
I couldn’t find out if its region locked so I ended up getting it locally hoping it would at least be console setting based not disc based. Looks like ill be trying to replace my limited edition with a us version since I wanna play with Americans.

yea, I haven’t even touched campaign yet because I have a (very) close friend in the us who I plan to play with when he’s back from deployment
