Region lock is killing halo 5

Here in New Zealand we are confined to the Oceania servers.
The population is so small that it is almost impossible to find a game outside of peak hours and even then search times can be long, you will repeatedly play against the same people and some playlists (e.g ffa) are still often unplayable due to lack of players.
It is seriously hurting the game.
When i wake up on a Saturday morning and cannot find a game until after lunch, thats a problem.
When i want to play a certain gametype, but the search fails after 10 minutes due to lack of players thats a problem.
When people on Oceania cant even play warzone assault thats a problem

Now people in America, you may not think of this as a problem, since your population is very good. But what about in 1 year? 1 and a half years? 2 years? Im sure you will be experiencing similar problems to Oceania players then.

I dont know much about servers or internet but in saying that we need the option to toggle the server we use between the region locked server and an alternative server, something similar to a world wide one that (i think) was used on other halos.

I would far rather have a little bit of lag then not being able to find a game.

Thanks

Actually, there is no region lock. They lifted it shortly after launch. I wish their was an option, since most if the time you get matched with americans, which is awfull connection wise
You sure it’s not related to your end? Checked your NAT? Troubles with other games?

You are completely wrong, and people need to stop spreading this misinformation. At least in terms of oceania, the regions were unlocked for a short period of time and then relocked. (Unless you mean unlocked in that it doesn’t prevent from joining a fireteam and playing with someone in another country: this has been “unlocked”, but that does not affect who you are usually matched with when you queue by yourself). It was completely obviously when it unlocked, and also obvious when it relocked. I never get matched with americans unless I join a fireteam with my friend in the US, and all the names and voices make it obvious that everyone I usually play with is in oceania (OZ this, Aus that, NZ blah, Kiwi X in their names etc). It is also slow to find games, and impossible in some playlists because of the low oceanic population - Warzone assualt and breakout before community breakout are simply playlists that we can’t play. However when I join a fireteam with a friend in the US, I can INSTANTLY, any time of the day or night, find a match. Further, it was fully proved that this is an issue with population, and not some other factor with the queue, on these very forums when a whole bunch of oceanic players agreed to search Warzone Assault at the same day/time, and suddenly you could get a match.

Not saying I fully agree with the OP, but what you said is just wrong. Personally, I would rather wait to play locals with less lag, especially in slayer and team arean. But maybe in the playlists where we get no games anyway, and where lag matters slightly less like Warzone assualt, I agree it would be a good option to allow us to match against other regions.

Weird. You guys only getting matches with players from your Region and Ive to struggle against americans while being in Europe

This community can’t make up their minds

Has there been any 100% concrete evidence that UK players don’t have servers or NZ is region locked or this needs to be locked this needs to be unlocked shibbadeedoo

Make up your minds fellas show evidence to back your claims

Laggy gameplay isn’t evidence that’s just a laggy game… I’m in the US…I get laggy games too

Wait, they lock you guys out, so you can’t find a game and in the same moment, whole europe is suffering so hard from constantly getting matched on us servers, that we want to be “locked out”? This means the system has this functions, but instead of giving us the option to decide, they just choose default values, so no one has fun? Either they are trolls or they are afraid, that their precious US Fan base could experience anything unpleasant…

We won’t have that problem in the united states. I can pop in a copy of Halo Anniversary in my 360 and still find people to play online with.
I’m sorry to hear you have that problem though. Hopefully they widen up your servers more to include a bigger pool of players.

Yes there is evidence, we’ve played on the Netduma and it shows the location of the servers. In the UK daytime, about 4/5 games are on US servers. At night, about 19/20 or higher are on US servers.

Read the EU servers thread, there’s plenty of info there.

Try reading before you spout nonsense like this. In Europe, it is clear that players are regularly matched against US players. In oceania, we do not switch to other servers when population is low, and thus there are playlists that we are unable to play. They are two different problems, with different results - frustration at lag for europe, and frustration at lack of games in some playlists for oceania. This thread is about the latter so it would be best if you stayed on topic.

Netduma Router uses proved that abouit 8/10 Games take place on US Server altough you are connecting from EU.

Precious US Fan base experience anything unpleasant? Really now? The servers are not that great for us hear as well, so get off your high horse.

Like I said, show evidence the word of people on forums means nothing to me, 343s word does have they said there are no EU servers or EU players get matched just to US players? Maybe EU population is so low you have to rely on US players if that is the case all of this is pure speculation I’m not saying my speculation is fact unlike you

Once again no proof is given…

Lets say you had proof on this second topic and the solution would be unlocking the region lock so Oceania could play with other countries…

That wouldn’t be a solution because it would just cause more lag arguments like EU players are currently spouting…

If you can show a concrete source that isn’t 3rd party ill rest my case

Netduma is a 3rd party source

Give me a 343 source they’re all that matters…

That’s like using VGchartz for console sales instead of what Microsoft/Sony say they’ve sold…smh…

Kiwis need to stop playing CoD then. I have a few kiwis in our Spartan company and some of them are always dancing back and forth between CoD and Halo.

The reason you don’t get games until later in the morning is because that’s when all the east coast of Australia get out of bed.

Honestly they have already opened up our region lock enough. The games are getting laggier and laggier. The whole of SE Asia can now play with us.

Once again, try reading. First, I explicitly said that I don’t agree that it should just be unlocked, especially in the competitive environment where lag really matters, like arena (Warzone Assault, where we can’t get a game at all, is a different matter, and since another whole continent already regularly plays with US players, I don’t see how it would be a huge problem)

Second, I already offered evidence, which is all that can be asked for here (there is no such thing as “proof” for a matter like this, we are not doing geometry here. Feel free to look up the difference.)

The evidence that oceanic players are not being matched with US is as follows:

  • Impossible to find games in some playlists.
  • Easy to find games in those same playlists when you join a US player’s fireteam.
  • Easy to find games in those same playlists when a whole bunch of people in oceania on these forums all agree to search that playlist on the same time/date.
  • Reports from players in other regions that they are in fact able to find games in said playlists.
  • Never hear american accents/themed gamer tags unless I join a US friend’s fireteam. Otherwise, it is all aussies and kiwis, voices, ganmertags, etc. This is in stark contrasts to the reports from european players, who hear/see this regularly.

Simple Jack, thanks for the reply. It certainly made me chuckle!

Anyhow, Netduma gives the geographical location of the server. It’s technical networking stuff, clearly you don’t understand it. That’s like me saying 4+4=8, and you replying “Give me an official source else I don’t believe it”. Lol! It’s basic stuff, honestly I don’t even know why I’m bothering to reply to you, I feel that I’d have more luck trying to explain the orbit of the Moon to a dog.

There is no region lock that is just so not the case. Its a latency issue there is a latency requirement in place and those that don’t meet it don’t find a match. Those in the EU are complaining because when we play on US servers there can be 150ms between us and the American players. Last time i checked the latency requirement was around 170ms so you need to meet that to find matches, They loosened those requirements to a few months back.

Not sure what region you are talking about but here in Australia we are playing on dedicated servers based here in our country most the time. Our latency to US servers is like 200ms plus so I rarely see US players unless they are partied up with us. The EU and US have much lower latency to each other then we have from AU to US. We are on the complete opposite side of the planet.

Your missing my point You don’t meet the requirements to log onto the American servers except for maybe some of the east coast of Australia and it being a west coast server. As you point out 200ms is too much.

> As you point out 200ms is too much.

Yes it is. I am glad that realise that and let us play on our own servers. At least for arena.
