Since its removal some of my Australian and NZ friends have been able to find games a lot quicker and more reliably. I don’t see this as a bad thing. Sure we may get laggy games once in a while but the servers can be upgraded. We don’t need it back

Halo is a precision shooter, laggy games should not be a part of it. And Theres tons of laggy games now. I live in Denmark so im also not always getting games fast, but id rather wait and have quality games.
you can always make custom games with your friends if there is trouble finding games in odd hours.

Good to see those guys being able to play again. I’m in The Netherlands and usually found games very quick. What makes me a happy Spartan is the fact I can finally play Breakout again. Was a ghosttown for months. Now I hope the games stay lag free.

Hmm breakout without region lock
hope you are not too attached to your KD.

No I’m not and Breakout is a game I usually do well.
When they suck.
And I see them first.

The highlighted part is pure arrogance.
343 must certainly upgrade the servers and build a smarter matchmacking system to privilege better connections first or introduce filter options, but asking to reintroduce the cheapest thing they could do to limit and hiding their problems making lot of people unable to play freely the game they’ve paid for is pure nonsense and egoism.
Just give us the damn choice!!!
I am an Aussie and I still can’t find games in the Slayer playlist.
I don’t understand people who want region lock. Aren’t they basically saying “I don’t care that other people can’t play, as long as I personally get a better experience it’s fine.” Just a bit selfish when I can’t rank in FFA for the sake of some Americans getting less lag.
quality games > quantity games. Obviously we can’t have both, however I hope that a matchmaking filters comes with the memories of reach update.

Well its not arrogance, its just reality. I dont live i a area where games is always fast to find, or even get. but thinking that you can get around the clock access to all playlists no matter where you live is not realistic. i dont even get that on CS. so in outside hours i must play with friends. way better than playing with 300ms
i agree that a solution to choose is the best, but right now everyone not in US is not having good gameplay. (and dont say you do unless you actually understand and can feel lag) .

most annoying when they dont get that getting games doesnt equal to a good experience, now they get games to get slaugthered.

You see? you two are two side of the same medal.
Region lock was the cheapest thing 343 could do to HIDE THEIR NETCODE ISSUES splitting the population in smaller groups incapable to play with each other.
The results were:
- longer search times (and for good games i can accept it)
- inability to play at certain hours for many players (TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE FOR A 6-MONTH OLD GAME)
- Average connection quality most of the times but NEVER TOTALLY LAG FREE (i could see people teleporting, eating bullets etc. exactly like when playing with US gamers).
Region lock removal in my personal opinion is a good thing, BUT 343 HASN’T FINISHED YET: now they must implement some kind of functionality, manual or automatic, to PRIVILEGE GOOD CONNECTION GAMES IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THE, EVENTUALLY, WIDEN THE SEARCH AFTER 2 MINUTES I NOBODY CAN BE FOUND IN ORDER TO AVOID COMPLETELY SEARCH FAILURES LIMITING HIGH LATENCY GAMES at the same time.
And, in addition to this FIX THE -Yoink!- NETCODE AND/OR LAG COMPENSATION BECAUSE AS IT IS NOW IS GARBAGE, EVEN ON REGION LOCKED SERVERS.

(Referring to highlighted part)
Dude, you cannot be serious. We are speaking about a 6-months old game, not about some Titanfall game played by 2000 people IN THE WORLD.
Playing at any time HAS TO BE POSSIBLE or just shut down services for the entire day until evening saving energy and money, don’t you think?
A server IS SUPPOSED TO BE UP AND RUNNING AND FUNCTIONAL 24/7.
Said that, i don’t think that all the lag is completely long distance fault: also under region lock i was able to find teleporting/rubberbanding/bullet eating players, so there must be other on the field: **I think that the netcode and maybe the lag compensation are to revise ASAP for this game.**Once the netcode is fixed properly also some matchmaking filters or some automatic mechanism to privilege nearer players first and then eventually widen the search to reach farther player TO AVOID SEARCH FAILURE COMPLETELY, or both (why not?) would be some pretty good “Nice to Have”.

Goddammit no.
Ask for proper netcode fixes, for a smarter matchmaking or for manual search filter BUT NO REGION LOCK, NEVER AGAIN. WE HAVE ALREADY SEEN ENOUGH “UNABLE TO MATCH” MESSAGE HERE.
finding players at all time around the world is impossible? … are you drunk? thats exactly what the internet is for. and it works with so many games. it even works with nintendo games and we all know nintendo has the worst online service out of the 3 consoles. maybe you need to play some lol. last time ive seen someone from my region… oh yeah, almost never. and the game has still stable connections most of the game.
if its so impossible why not just release halo 6 without online support and go back to lan partys and stuff like that? cant believe someone said that in the year 2016… i feel like we are back in the 90s.
when eu players had problems 'muricans (some) were like “oh yeah, deal with it” and now you seem to have problems you cant even deal with it yourself.
just like EBLspartan said, thats pure arrogance.
(sure, when i wake up to early for work i gonna phone my friends that would normaly wake up 4 hours later to play some halo 5… brilliant logic.)
@EBLSpartan - I am aware that you have been campaigning for changes to be made to enable players to play at off-peak hours and it is true that players should be able to find games at all hours on a 24-7 service, however your support of the decision to remove region lock is completely and utterly wrong.
The negative consequential effects of removing region lock will have more severe affects on thousands of more gamers than the restrictions that region lock enforced…fixing something for a relative minority is not the correct solution when the implications effect the relative majority. This decision is not acceptable by any stretch of the imagination.
It would appear that 343i are only capable of the 2 network settings which is in itself quite pathetic and shows how incompetent they truly are…
Option 1: no region lock = fast search times / high latency games
Option 2: region lock = slow search times / low latency games
Yes, it is a fact that option 2 also prevents players finding games, however is this really worth it if the other option causes high latency and low quality games for thousands of other gamers?! This isn’t a selfish attitude…its a simple fact and a completely ridiculous situation.
There needs to be a 3rd option which needs to be implemented by 343i…
Option 3: fast search times / low latency games
…the network and development team need to work harder at implementing a system that is intelligent and capable enough to provide this. The fact that over 6 months into the games lifecycle and we are still talking about this, just goes to show what a complete and utter bunch of incompetent morons are in charge of this game and service to its customers. Pathetic.

I’m happy for region lock removal because now i don’t have to worry anymore if i will be able to find a game the next time or not.
I’m also really aware that this must not be the end and that the road to make this matchmaking system almost “perfect” is yet very long.
Said that, i’m not experiencing lag at the moment (i’m playing right now) but i’m aware that many players are struggling with this instead, so i agree and is what i have always said since my “343, region lock is not the answer” thread: we need a 3rd option, as you said, and 343 has to implement it ASAP.
Anyway, to everyone saying that region lock affected only a minorance so it’s a marginal problem i tell you this: the day before 343’s tweak that removed region lock HALOTRACKER PEOPLE THEMSELVES TWEETED TO 343 AND BRAVO ABOUT REGION LOCK ISSUE.
Not so marginal problem if a well known site like that, much appreciated by halo community, reported it in first person to devs.
