Regicide... what could be done?

I can respect that this is supposed to be a “fun” gametype. But really, why is there no option just to play FFA?

I understand how the scoring works and all. Just…why? Especially in Halo, why?

As king, give extra points… ballenced game? But this is just… i dont even know.

The only problem I have with regicide is the loss on my service record for coming in anything other than first.

Regicide is 343’s preference just as Rumble pit was Bungie’s. You see Halo 4 is like new and improved except that quality control took the day off. I played a game today where I joined in progress and when the game ended I was in 3rd place. I killed the king maybe 5 or 6 times in 5 minutes or less and almost won.

The points you get from killing the king should be toned down by half.
I played a game earlier where I joined a game in progress with the leader 200 points ahead of me. Then I won with about 15 kills and the original leader had 23-25 kills.

I agree, Regicide needs work. Be it the constant kill waypoint or the great spawn system, it is a serious disadvantage to be in first place. A sensible person would tell you to stay in second place for the majority of the game but that strategy just feels wrong to me. It Kim of reminds me of staying in second place in Mario Kart to avoid getting the Blue Shell. Which is a great comparison for Regicide…

I have a feeling standard FFA is coming in January’s “halo savior” update.

Regicide is a great game mode and it prevents the leader from just camping with power weapons. If there is one change to be made, I’d say let it be something like this:

Anyone kills anyone except for the King: 10 pts
2nd place kills king: 10 pts
3rd place: 15 pts
4th place: 20 pts
5th place: 25 pts
6th place: 30 pts

You could also add this. For every kill that the king gets when he is at the maximum bounty, he gets 20 pts/kill instead of just 10.

I’d love it if they gave the king bonus points for kills but it isn’t a custom option for that. You see what happens when remove custom game options? You shoot yourself in the foot. But that’s another topic for another thread.

I’d also like it if they decreased the amount of times the bounty can increase, and made the bounty reset on death.

I enjoyed the action of being the king and having every1 charge at me… But really? Why should my holding king for 5 min outclassed by his 54 sec? Almost all my kills were as the king, under pressure… Hope it gets tweaked so that being king is actually desirable.

Stay away from Regicide Tim. It is flawed in so many ways. Not to mention you usually have to play on Haven which means you may never even get a sight of the King due to the small nature of that map (i.e King is killed before you reach him). Anyway, yeah, Regicide is busted and needs some saving. Team Regicide isn’t so bad. A proper FFA playlist is badly needed. On some good maps. Haven seems too small, or something, considering the insta respawns and infinite sprint.

Regicide as FFA is a horrible gametype. It takes an already frustrating playlist to another level of frustration.

Regicide is such trash. It never rewards the players that actually do well. I’ve been getting tons of second place finishes and the winning player rarely has a positive kill/death ratio or time as the king. If they gave the king something to compensate for the constant attention such as more damage or faster shield regeneration, that would be more tolerable. The king bonus traits don’t kick in fast enough.

I hope Regicide disappears in the future and gets replaced by a traditional FFA playlist, one where a strong player is rewarded by slaying. Considering that I first started with Halo 3 Lone Wolves, Regicide is an insult to FFA.

Team Regicide, on the other hand, isn’t bad at all. In some ways I find it better than 4v4 Infinity Slayer since it is less chaotic and more focused.

I don’t know what bothers me more… The fact that this is possible or the fact I’ll still play it out of boredom.

I will give credit to the winning player of the aforementioned Regicide game since he has won the game with a more skill.

His Magnum skill supersedes the used Assault Rifle kills obtained by the second placed player and I believe that he right fully won the game, because he has used skill instead of the spray and pray method that the Assault Rifle likes to reward.

I wish they would add a certain bonus to a player for using a more skilled approach to kill someone It would be easy to insert a bonus 10 points for getting head shot kills versus just automatic rifle kills and having it count towards your score in Regicide.

This game does not reward the player for getting a kill with a the Magnum versus the Assault Rifle which in my opinion it should. If the game would have this type of reward system build in then the player that won the game would have won by a land slide.

I am just stating my opinion and giving food for thought. I am not trying to set people against one another here, but just wanted to point this simple fact.

Even though I highly dislike it, I still play it since it’s the only FFA playlist out there. If we had a normal FFA Slayer I wouldn’t touch FFA Regicide. But as of right now I need to satisfy my FFA needs, so I have no choice but to play it.

I think you missed the whole point… My gripe is with the structure. I played multiple games with that player, we are friends of friends. My point is, I want to just play FFA. I. Used the appropriate weapons. Had firepower on so I could us DMR and AR. Spent 5x longer as king too.

OP - I have been on both ends of your point. I won by killing the king a bunch of times at the max points. To be honest, it sucks dominating as the king an entire match then losing. Argh…

To answer the question “what can be done”?

Delete it from the playlists and put Halo’s own FFA Rumble Pit there.

Yes I did say “Halo’s own”. It came first, it is a staple and should never be F’d with.

You can’t turn down the suck in Regicide. You can’t convince some people that they have a huge nose either. Some people get it, others don’t. Clearly 343i doesn’t get it. We all want the suck to go, but the only way for that to happen is to bury it and forget it ever made it onto the Halo 4 playlist as long as it did.

Aside from that, it isn’t too bad.

All they need to do is give you a point bonus for how ever long you’re king. Maybe 5 pts for every 10 sec.

The king should definitely get more points for kills.
