Regarding the Slipspace Event.

This is a question that’s still fresh in my mind, but I felt like putting it out there just cause why not. OK, so I was wondering how exactly close the In Amber Clad was to the Solemn Penance when the latter jumped into slipspace over New Mombasa, and it’s location relative to the carrier. I went back and looked at the 3 major cutscenes that show this event (Halo 2, Halo 2 Anniversary, and Halo 3: ODST), and I noticed that all 3 of them were different in subtle ways.

  • In Halo 2, we see the Clad come up off the starboard side of the Penance, right near the front hangar when it jumps. When the Penance gets pulled in, we don’t see the Clad assuming that it was already in the rupture with the front part of the carrier (at this point we only see the engines)
  • ODST’s version is similar to Halo 2’s, with the Clad being at around the same area it was in Halo 2, however the Clad is shown to go in at the same time as the rest of the ship, being visible as it does so. I would also like to point out that at this time no parts of the Penance were inside the rupture before it closed, like it was in Halo 2.
  • 2A’s cutscene is where the problem really gets bad, with the Clad being at the stern side of the Penance while also just barely making it in the rupture before it closes. At this point the Penance is completely inside the rupture. These little discrepancies may make no difference in the events that occurred and it may just come down to artistic liscense, but I feel it’s an interesting note nonetheless. I am curious about which one of these cutscenes is considered the standard for in-game events. Thoughts?

I think Halo 2 Anniversary is currently meant to be the most canonically correct, since it’s the most recent depiction of the event.

I always find it hard to believe that the penance never saw them.

Considering there’s an explosion, over water no less, it doesnt make sense the city got pulled through even.

By the current standards,Halo2 anniversary is higher weuighted in canon, however,I find it too dramatic.

All of these might actually be accurate. Considering that this was a slipspace jump, (in atmosphere none the less) and we know that exposure to raw slipspace energy causes odd results (see; the nausea and confusion that the Spartans experience looking at the slipspace pods in Ghosts of Onyx, Fred’s hour long look into the abyss in Last Light, a similar odd sensation in the Menachite Mountain complex in First Strike, the list goes on), it might be that In Amber Clad was IN ALL OF THOSE PLACES AT ONCE.
Unlikely, I know, but I just felt it should be pointed out its an option.
