Take Halo 3 for example, Every helmet looked BA and awesome, and they were unique from each other as well.
In Halo Reach, however, there was only a handful of helmets that looked cool… the rest were plainly mediocre or just stupid looking. And, all the helmets followed the same design theme, so there was no diversity between them.

In the First Look Trailer the helmets were looking pretty badass to me.
