Would everyone be so kind as to explain to me why this is a good thing for H5? WHAT exactly does having dedicated servers improve? No lag whatsoever? Faster matches? Mic’s not cutting out? Please walk me through it…
Thanks

As far as I understand, it means that no one is host anymore. We all connect to the server that hosts the game for us and there are servers placed in different parts of the world. Dedicated servers does not mean there’s no more lag.
Dedicated servers is a good thing.
Please explain to me a little more? What makes it a good thing if it doesn’t cut out lag or slowed connections? All I heard is we’re getting dedicated servers, but I don’t know jack-yoink about it

I don’t really know, here’s somebody answering it on Yahoo.
Technically:
They make games fair:
Ok. That clears things up. I appreciate it
dedi’s basically mean increased stability, less lag, and no more host advantage
Oh, and no more blue/black screens of death
Most games (last gen at least) typically used what’s called Peer to Peer connection. Basically, one player would be assigned the host role and the bulk of networking activity would be assigned to that xbox. This meant that depending on your location/network speed you could have a sub-optimal connection to the host, which is where you start getting problems like host advantage.
Dedicated Servers on the other hand more resemble the Client-Server model; basically a server is the host instead of a player, generally meaning a higher quality of games since they’re easier to connect to (usually) and they can sometimes afford additional processing power as well.
It gets rid of host advantage, and generally makes multiplayer better, but it’s not a magic bullet. Bad connections and and poor implementation are still going to cause problems.
The only disadvantage I can think of dedicates servers is that if 343 shut them down there would be no more halo 5 whereas in halo 3 with no server you can keep playing peer to peer until the end of time…
or Until Microsoft shuts down the 360 servers
Dedicated servers means online all the time so Xbox live crashes ;D good luck. Unless they do like rent a server like Bf does you have to stick with whatever connected server you get.
Oh god Halo 5 isn’t gonna be dedicated servers is it?

It will. It was in the initial MP teaser. The beta was on them.

dang, another reason I wish I didn’t miss beta, then I would know how well the dedicated servers work for me before playing.
Then again, I just read that MC Collection apparently uses dedicated servers for matchmaking and that seems to be working fine since I got it in May.
I guess I’ll just have to experience it for myself
It will reduce lag a ton, but if someone has bad internet not a lot can be done about that.
If a player quits, or drops out of a match there will be no black screen while waiting for the game to find a new host, because the server is the host.
There will be no more Host advantage. For the most part everyone will be on a level playing field, unless of course you do have really bad internet.
It won’t eliminate every issue, but your overall experience will be tons smoother.

I’m just a bit anxious it’s gonna be like League of Legends where I get frequent lag spikes after they moved the server to Chicago.
On another awesome note, usually lag switches are detrimental to the user, and easier to detect for kicking with dedicated servers (from what I’ve read, if there’s a tech oriented person on here correct me if I’m wrong)
So better gaming experience for your average non-cheating, non-modding gamers.

As for the network manipulation and modders, not sure if/how this will affect them.

with deds, if you lag that’s because of your connection. on P2P if you lagg it ‘could’ be your connection, or it ‘could’ be theirs. but if your connection is bad you will still have better speed and stability on deds than P2P even if you occasionally have connection issues on your end

Are you sure about this with p2p? All 360 games are lumped together?

Yea Solaris is incorrect because the matchmaking service itself must be hosted on a dedicated server.
Once it matches players and selects a host for the game, only then are you completely independent from 343/Microsoft servers because the Xbox’s do the rest of the work.
Microsofts servers spin up and down depending on what is asking for space on them, so in theory, as long as the X1 live servers are up, any game using them should be.
