Regarding banned accounts

I seen this earlier posted on another forum. But why is it when an account is banned it says temporarly to 2286. I mean if you are going to hand out temp bans shouldn’t they be you know a few months to a year. I don’t really think anyone is going to come back in 200 years and sign on their account. I just find the wording a bit redundant? Anyone else think so?

Oh completely agreed. I just would like to be able as I’m sure many others that roam on secondary accounts for foolish mistakes a year ago would like to be able to go onto their main account again. Not only that but you can’t even message anyone about it. You are stuck in Limbo for 200 years.

If you are banned for that long, it is considered a permanent ban, similar to how Xbox LIVE bans you to 31/12/9999, it doesn’t say permanent.

Yea however it does say this account has been temoprarly banned. Seriously this website is near perfect except for this addition. What is the point in having police state forum moderation? You will do nothing except limit the amount of people who visit the forum itself. Take a look at other forum models that have done perfectly well such as NEOGaf or Bungie for example. You could at least get a permban talked down given the right reasons or time. You can’t even access anything so everyone turns to secondary-3,4,5,6,7 accounts on incognito mode. Which thos get banned as well over time. So really it is just wasting their resources having to have so many useless unneeded accounts on the website. Not only that but do the Moderators or ADMINs even reply to your messages regarding these issues? No of course not. I could message a neogaf mod of B.net mod and would have a message within a day regarding the issue and it wouldn’t happen again. I do understand, however that this is a newish forum but in all honesty it’s very easy to get a ban. Just disagree with someone on any topic.

So you’re saying they shouldn’t ban people?

Permanent ban message or temporary ban message, they still broke rules and deserved the ban, it doesn’t matter if the accounts are unused, they lost their privilege to use the forums when they decided to go against the rules.

If you actually go to the Members page and click the Rank drop down menu and hit Discharged, you will see how many people are permanently banned, yet the forum population just keeps on growing, and will do as Halo the franchise grows.

However this is not the issue at hand. 343 should not have redundant messages with the ban message. And you can’t even get your ban lowered. They just find it easier to perm ban everyone that breaks the rules. Yes I realize you break the rules you get banned. But as you know majority of those accounts are repeat accounts with different names I can guarantee you this. I just find it quite sad that for a new upcoming forum such strict rules and moderation are applied. Not so much that but the policies surrounding getting unbanned are near impossible. Let alone the reasoning for the ban you can’t even see. I’m sorry if you don’t agree with my but I’ve recently completed my police diploma and I find this site police-state related. You don’t find someone guilty for stealing that cholcolate bar without hearing their side first. Let alone getting the charge dropped, or lowered. There is none of that here. Sorry but it my subjective view and it will never change whether you agree with me or not.

You’re making it sound like you get a permanent ban on your first offence, that isn’t the case, as said in another ban thread, moderators are always available for a chat on Twitter & Xbox LIVE if you want to discuss your ban with them, in most cases, the ban was worthy, the rules aren’t even that strict, if you manage to break them multiple times and get multiple bans, then that is a mistake on your hands.

I prefer it like this, if stat flaming wasn’t a rule, this place would have turned into Bungie.net’s Reach forum a long time ago.

Accounts get unbanned are impossible because they broke rules and they are paying the price for it, the forums are a privilege, not something to be abused.

I’m sorry but for a forum to be a privelage it has to have some useful value with a great community. I have tried multiple times to reach mods and Admins with no reply back. My opinion won’t change so there really isn’t much more to discuss here. I wanted the community opinion. And if you look at the 17,000 pages of members most are duplicate profiles with the default picture.

The forums are used for discussion of Halo in an official place as well as a place to leave your feedback on everything Halo, if you break the rules, you don’t deserve that, no matter who you are, you aren’t above anyone else when it comes to forum rules.

17,000 pages of accounts and most of them are duplicates, you really should look at all 17,000 pages before saying that.

But anyways, I’ll stop, seems like you are stuck with your own opinion which is a poor way to go about it.

Chance are, if you’ve received a permanent ban, you’ve done something especially grievous, and it’s not your first offense. Yes, there are exceptions, but they are extremely rare.

We don’t ban you for having opinion. We want you to discuss things. Arguing is all well and good, but you have to do so in a constructive manner. Most times, the reason for any banning is not because you have a dissenting opinion, but it’s because of the manner in which it is presented. It’s not about the message, but how it is stated.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me or any of the members of the moderation team. Some of us are on and more available than others, so I appologize if any of your previous PM’s were not addressed in a timely manner.

I’ve been banned, many many times. longest temporary ban is 2 weeks. after that you get permanently banned.

For boosting/afk or what?

there seems to be some confusion between being banned on the forums and in-game bans. I can’t get banned in reach because I don’t have it. I’ve been banned from the forums about…I’ve lost count actually. if I estimate and add in the beta and gamma forum bans; about 10 or 12 times. maybe more.

It helps so that you can have an opinion an don’t get flamed for it.
