Regarding about Halo Canon Policy

Folks, I need to ask a specific favor from you guys. I need you to provide a source with specific time stamp where they said about Games = Book (basically they changed the canon policy). I believe it is at Halo Fest: Universe Fiction panel or Sparkcast 12-15.

Someone claimed that 343i overrides the Bungie’s canon policy since Bungie’s agreement with Microsoft on Halo IP was over, making their policy null and void and 343i made new canon policy.

So, can you help me with this? I cannot hear the sparkcasts or Halo: Fest Universe Fiction panel, so sorry about if I ask you to hear through large content.

Thank you for reading the thread!

I don’t think there’s any major plot inconsistencies; I think 343i regards every piece of official fiction as canon.

Well, Bungie’s canon policy still applies to all pre-343 content, and there will always be the “new canon overrides old canon”. However, I do believe it was the Halo Universe panel or the Halo 4 panels from Halo fest that talks about 343’s canon policy (both of these panels are on the Waypoint website).

343i claims they can make it all work.

> 343i claims they can make it all work.

Hahaha that’s rich.

I can prove them wrong.

Halo Reach, conflicts with Halo: Ghosts of Onyx and Halo: The Fall of Reach along with certain aspects of Halo: The Flood.

It really doesn’t though, if you know the whole story.

343’s canon policy is in regard to the post-bungie content.

And, incidentally, Halo Reach isn’t the first piece of Halo content to conflict with earlier content.

Well you have ILB(I know it’s canon it’s my favourite canon and I defend it), but thats the earliest I can think of so far, and perhaps you could find small contradictions before that.

Well unless you count the Halo CE Manual which is outdated. As new canon over written it.

Only parts of ILB are canon. It’s a great story, but there are some major errors in it.

Also, a lot of the new stuff conflicts with things established in both The Fall of Reach and First Strike. Some of these inconsistencies were fixed in the 2010 reissues of the books, but others still exist.

Yea I know… But until we acually get told what is and not canon in ILB’s then nothing is certain about it.

And yea problems like the Pillar of Autumn getting a transmission too early in the Fall of Reach about generators falling early and stuff like that. But this contradiction means that the pillar is at reach that little bit longer helping Halo Reach fit in easier.

I would imagine, based on comments I’ve heard, that the bulk of it is canon. However, things like the second class of S-IIs are not. Still, ILB is a great story.

Honestly, I just feel its important to point out that Halo Reach isn’t the first piece of fiction to over-write previously established events. Hell, as you pointed out, it doesn’t change that much of the established story.

Yea I know that, I wouldn’t have mentioned the Halo CE manual which is full of previously established events that were overwritten by books like Contact Harvest. Haha

Was it Bungie or 343 that said they can fix the SPARTAN II count error? Sitll waiting on that…

343i Says they have a reason why Ralph from Halo Legends has such a high number as a SPARTAN II. I assume they will actually make a 2nd SPARTAN II Class thus fully canonizing I Love Bees.

So they’re going to make the 30 or so surviving SPARTAINS on Reach non canon now? Boo. Probably means the Spirit of Fire was never found then.

Well Halo : The Fall of Reach stated that the first time Elites were ever seen was during the attack on Reach, and Halo : First Strike states that Brutes were first seen at that time. Halo : Reach may not have fit perfectly with The Fall of Reach, but neither does a lot of stuff in the Halo universe, really.

Games and books that came out after that book simply did a retcon of what was said. Like Toa Freak said, Reach isn’t the first part of Halo fiction to not fit perfectly into the universe, yet people hate on it as though it’s the only one.

The definitive edition fixed that so Stop saying fall of reach Said this and that about elites.

Since when was “canon policy” a physical, or formalized thing?

It was always just bungie’s personal view on the matter. Unless there’s an agency that judges fictional material in fictional franchises that’s elected by the UN or something, I don’t see the big deal.
