References in the halo franchise

There are tons of outside referances to popular culture in the Halo games. I’ve noticed several. The Flood have a similar life cycle to the Xenomorphs; Srgt. Johnson is based on Srgt. Apone from Aliens. The Elites look like and have a similar culture to the Predators; And one time in Halo 5, a teammate picked up a Hydra launcher and his character said “hail hydra”. So I was wondering what references have you noticed.

I saw a lot of RvB refrences

The pilot of Pelican Echo-419 in Halo CE was codenamed “Foe Hammer”, which I’m assuming is a reference to Gandalf’s sword in LotR. That might be a stretch though

I’ve never actually thought of it that way, good point!

A lot of what you mentioned was design choices. Those I would not say are much references, rather they are things that Bungie originally took inspiration from. As far as references go though Halo has always had many. Halo games are well intertwined so they reference each other quite a bit. As well there are many Easter eggs in the Halo games that are very funny references.

Off the top of my head one thing that always gets a laugh out of me is in Halo 3 with the IWHBYD skull on if you punch an elite sometimes they will respond with “Is this because of Reach!?”
