I play a lot of Halo 5 and recently I played the Master Chief Collection (MCC). I came back on Halo 5 and man it really screwed up my aim. Halo 2s aim felt slow and simple. Then I had to get back used to Halo 5s aim. Which has a huge skill gap. Halo 5 is pretty competitive. Which switching the gameplay from MCC to Halo 5 made me kind of frustrated… because Halo 5 wasn’t fun.
People talk in matches, more in warzone and WZFF. But you most of the time have to talk first to get more people to talk.
Campaign… doesn’t even compare to the other Halo’s. Let’s just say you could learn a lot from this video.
But dont worry! Halo Wars 2 story could inspire Halo 6, and split screen is coming back. Many people say the classic art designs are also coming back. And we will finally return to what the game is about: the Halo array.
So since you’re a new player, the game has no history of what your skill level is like. You were likely being matched with the players who are of lower skill (hence walking into walls not killing anyone). You need to play 10 matches in a ranked playlist to get a baseline skill. From there, you start matching with people of similar skill. As you progress, so does your rank, and so will your competition. You just need to have patience.
Yeah Halo has gone through a lot of changes over the past years. H5 being a perfect example. Match making in arena, is based to some extent on the amount of wins you get. It’s geared more towards team play, rather than solo play. It is sad that nobody uses their mics anymore. Though when they do I usually here a squeaker. XD
I’ve just found a group of guys to play with… we will just stay in Party Chat the whole time, so that solves the communication issues.
As for the gameplay… I see it as a logical progression from H2 and H3, but due to the abilities maps needed to be rescaled a bit. If you learn the game to a high degree, it’s really not a big deal. You’ll find ways to reach cover quickly, you’ll minimize your errors over extending into “no-man’s-land” areas, which relative to old Halo games there are a lot more of… IF you don’t factor in Sprint and Thruster pack, even Slide.
The game plays well overall, if you’re open to it. The spawns can be whack, and the heavy aim phenomenon is a really big issue that arises sometimes though and I hope someone can come out and prove it. It’s game-breaking. It feels as if your sensitivity is changing from match to match, and aim-assist seeming goes away on occasion. Not good…
I wish there was more of a classic playlist structure and gametype offerings as well, better maps in some cases, but if you can get past some of these changes, and performance issues, the game is great.

Halo 2 and Halo 3 had constant communication - I queued in the ‘competitive play list arena’ as well - I use to be a 43 in the MLG playlist and the matches were always very serious - I actually saw someone run into a wall and lost majority of my games cause team mates would quit/nobody would kill anything

> Not sure what else to say - I haven’t touched the game since. I use to enjoy halo online for competition but it didn’t appear present and my ranked matches were so frustrating/unenjoyable that I don’t see a reason to play again(I wasn’t even playing poorly from my huge break) - anyone who has any tips please feel free to share.
Don’t blame you,I played so much H2 and h3 and h5 feels so different from those two.I don’t talk to random anymore because of bad interactions I’ve had with people on xbox live…don’t let people hear your frustrations with halo 5 because apparently it’s the best Halo ever
If you don’t have friends or regulars to team up with don’t bother with the ranked 4v4 really. The H5 FFA is great IMO. Very competitive, best FFA since H3 lone wolves. Mythic fiesta is fun and action sack can be as well. Warzone isn’t to bad either although lately I have been sticking to the firefight. Also check out the custom game browser, fiesta castle wars is a blast, fiesta in that dorm room map or even host a game. I hosted a FFA on battle Creek and it was great.

343 screwed up the aiming. I can’t think of the terms at the moment, but they did something to the acceleration rate or something. I’d have to look up the link to remember.

Welcome to modern gaming. Party chat helped ruin open mics and then in H5 they got rid of proximity chat as well.
-
With sprint and the other abilities, they had to make the maps bigger horizontally and vertically to accommodate them. If you’re used to the original gameplay, then H5 will definitely not feel right.

The game is advancing, your choice to advance with it or not.
It’s definitely a hard game to get the hand of. I’d stick to the customs browser and social playlists until you get good. Once you get more reqs, then head to warzone. Automatics are very useful in halo 5 so make sure you use them for close range encounters, but precision weapons are still dominant.
I think the issue is how everyone expects it to be classic halo, but it’s not. It’s evolved halo. What they technically did was add Spartan abilities to halo 2, then all the maps, weapon balancing, etc. fell in place around it. If you think of it as it’s own game and not constantly compare it to classic halo, I think you’ll find that it’s a lot of fun. Personally speaking, this is my favorite multiplayer halo game followed by halo 2, but I know it’s not for everyone. If you just can’t have fun in halo 5, I’d buy the MCC. It has halo CE, 2, 3, and 4’s MP and campaign in it (along with ODST’s campaign if you pay $5). It used to be extremely buggy, but now it works pretty good.
Thats generally people on xbox live though, on the 360 everyone used their mics now not many people do.
I miss the good old halo 3 pregame lobby’s all that trash talking before the match and the GG at the end lol.
if its really been that long since you played its not that halo does not feel like halo, its that you are not used to playing anymore.

The only communication I hear these days is someone I’ve been randomly matched with telling me to stop playing the game.
Surprisingly though i’ve been playing team doubles solo searching and 90% of the time my teammate has had a mic.
This is the last Halo I will ever buy(and I bought this one when it was on sale for $25). I don’t know if I’m just getting bored of it, or if its just too different from early Halos, I just don’t find it very fun. Games are rarely ever close, smart link or whatever the hell they call it while zooming in the air, clambering, spartan charge, ground pound, all of that -Yoink- is annoying. I don’t know why 343 is so set on having us melee so damn much. Not to mention zoom on melee weapons(wtf, really), join in progress just to watch the last person on your team die and lose, and mutual kills all the -Yoinking!- time. Not to mention the times my controller settings revert to default, even though when I go to check them it doesn’t say default.
I know many people really like H5(and I envy you, I used to love H1-H3, and even had lots of fun on Reach), and I admit it is a huge improvement from H4, but I’m over it already.

I usually hear coughing and people sniffing and only speaking when they die which gets on my nerves alot so i just mute everyone straight away unfortunately
