I’m all for 343 granting us the chance to finally showcase what our spartans TRULY look like, compared to the typical red vs blue.
However! I don’t fully understand why they chose the red vs blue OUTLINES.
imo, your teammates shouldn’t need to be outlined at all. That’s just redundant. The enemy should have a red outline and that’s it.
Shouldn’t be more complicated than that.
Well, not everyone is as smart or skilled as us. I already get shot by teammates even though we’re the same color, imagine if we just had an outline lmao
Nah, but it’s just to make it easier for confused people or casuals/noobs.
Outlines are customisable so maybe you can turn them off for your own team.

are they really? or is that speculation?

oh i 100% get shot by teammates and betrayed for the sniper. they should add a “vote to kick” feature. especially for the betrayers and the afk’ers.

It’s confirmed as an accessibility feature. Whatever colour you pick will outline the teams, be the colour of the scoreboard and the flag. It will default to red Vs blue, but there will be other options.
They haven’t confirmed if you can toggle for friendlies/FFA though.

This is completely illogical, it should be the reverse of this. Team mates with outlines, enemies without them, just as it is in all other games with an outline system. That way spotting enemies is still intuitive, but their position isn’t constantly given away.

I think you may have misunderstood. They aren’t talking about outline visible through walls.
We are talking outlines of a solid colour to signify the team only visible when they are in your immediate view. It’s used in many popular games like Overwatch which means players can have a variety of different skins and colours without it interfering with the teams. It’s actually a really solid way to allow better online customisation. I may not have agreed with Halo doing this in the past, but I’m all for it, especially with the free to play model.

Ummm no. You misunderstood me actually.
I’m not talking about players being revealed through walls (where did I say that??). I understand the system perfectly. My point is that if 343 are to outline either your teammates or enemies as the OP is suggesting (as apposed to both), then they should outline only your teammates.
That way enemy players don’t ping off your screen, but you always know to shoot them exactly because they don’t have outlines. It’s the most logical and intuitive way of implementing an outline system.

Oh, you said about players position constantly being given away.
Enemy players don’t ping off your screen? What does that mean?
Overwatch does enemies only and it works very well. It’s extremely intuitive actually.

Yeah, I said about players’ having their position given away, probably because that’s liable to happen when you put a red outline around them. I don’t know why that’s hard to grasp. People have literally pointed out how much easier it is to spot enemies in dark areas of the map because of this system.
The bottom line is, what is the point?
If we have our teammates highlighted then enemy players don’t need to have outlines to begin with. It’s the most logical way of implementing an outline system.

It’s not like Halo has ever had an enemy visibility issue. In fact, you glow like a lightning bug in halo 5. Compared to that, a hud-based outline is much preferred.

It isn’t hard to grasp. Enemies can’t hide when they’re on your screen lmao.
You don’t even look at your teammates, it’s better to have a clearer indicator for the enemy, better for gameplay and better for those with accessibility issues. This will help them immensely.

If it isn’t hard to grasp then why do you keep getting confused about it? What do you mean enemies can’t hide on your screen? If an enemy is in the corner of the screen in a dark area of the map then you probably won’t notice them straight away, which is exactly how it should work, since, you know, they’re in the shadows…
There would be no accessibility issues if only teammates are outlined, it would be a simple case of shooting anyone who isn’t outlined. Simple stuff unless you’re severely cognitively impaired. Or maybe 343 should go even further and add bright red arrows above everyone’s heads to help with ‘accessibility issues’ even further.

If the enemy isn’t behind something then you can see them. You peek, you’re getting shot. There are no dark corners in Halo where a player is not visible. Hop into MCC or Halo 5 and try to find one, you won’t be able to even with a dark Spartan model.
If someone has difficulty seeing certain colours, then outlining the enemy in the colour they are most confident with will help them significantly, whereas highlighting their team does nothing for them. They also may not be able to see a stationary target without an outline like I would be able to and they should not be punished for that.
I get it’s not a problem you have, but it’s a problem a lot of people have and games cater to that now which is the completely correct logical and ethical approach to make games as inclusive for as many people as possible. Especially for Microsoft’s flagship title, they’re very forward thinking with their adaptive controllers so it’s good to know they care about this type of thing.

They’re doing it partly for accessibility I believe. But also, because everyone is customizing their Spartan, I think it’s to help during the chaos of battle. Coming around the corner and seeing a spartan and you don’t see an outline immediately may cause a few shots where the outline could help prevent that. COULD. It’ll be interesting to see if your teammates’ outlines are viable through walls. Like you can see where exactly they are vs their ID arrow above their head. Luckily, this is what flighting is for. If you play in the flights and still think it’s redundant, leave the feedback!
Outlines .Rader .ping system. Personal ai we actually might be in danger of information overload .throw in player comms in on top of that and that’s a noisy headset and a busy screen .
Maybe it enhances the gameplay we won’t know until we start to play and if its a problem 343 can easily revert or retract the changes back to the current formula of red v blue that we 100% know that works perfectly fine for halo .
