Red vs Blue distinction is too weak

My eyes are not good to begin with but are other folks having problems distinguishing friend vs foe… I would like to see an option that the red vs. Blue effects are enhanced in the settings so it is easier to distinguish…

You can change the colors in the settings to something you can see easier

Been there done that… the Color effects need to be bigger or more prominent… I get that 343 wanted us to show off our skins but in game play does that really matter…. Hopefully i will adjust…

Agreed! It doesn’t happen often, but even me and my friends get killed by who we thought was a teamate… another issue is anyone with a skin the colour of whatever you set the outline to permanently look as though their shield is recharging or wounded, but actually aren’t so you just get smoked.

Hopefully they can add a setting. I have noticed from playing on pc and console that my og Xbox one seems to have thicker lines. I actually prefer the less prominent lines on my pc tho.

I personally want the option to turn off outlines for allies or only have them for my fireteam.

There should really be an option to enable classic forced team colours instead of the current outline system. That way there is absolutely no confusion about what team another player is on - if he’s not the same colour as your wrists, blast 'em! Personally I find the excuse of ‘but it lets you see cosmetics’ to be extremely weak because honestly I just do not care what coating the other players are using, and I don’t care if others can see the coating I’ve selected. Make it a clientside option that only affects you (like the new skin toggles in MCC) and everybody wins.

I agree this needs significant improvement. Sounds like they might be working on something:

Friend or Foe (IFF) Recognition (Player Outlines)

  • Positive: Accessibility and customization options continue to be appreciated
  • Positive: Shield state and Overshield readability improved since last flight, some felt there was still room for improvement
  • Feedback: Some players felt IFF outlines made it too easy to spot (and be spotted) from far away
  • Feedback: Desire for more options remains, including the ability to turn them off

Sandbox Team Response

It was great to see the improvements we implemented since last flight landing well, especially around the readability of a player’s shield state to determine how much health they had left.

During the BTB portion of the flight, some players brought up concerns about the range at which IFF outlines kicked in. It didn’t seem to be a problem for most, but we wanted to acknowledge that we hear this and we’ll monitor it when we launch.

As for turning them off entirely, we’d love to provide this option (and others) down the line, but it’s something we’ll need to balance and prioritize with our other work. We’ll provide updates on this when we have them.

I like the idea of making it an individual option, going traditional red vs blue or keeping it as is… as an older gamer this really is important for folks who do not have the eyes of an 18 year old anymore

How are you able to play other online shooters? most games out there have no out line at all around enemies and they work out just fine. i dont think halo needs the outlines at all and they are annoying. all it needs is name tags or service tags on team mates then if u see someone who doesnt have one shoot them. Could u imagine battlefield with a bunch of glowing enemies lol

I made enemies yellow and that helps me a lot because it pops better than other colors

I only play halo…. That is the only game I play.

They did break the Red vs Blue rule. However, I am pretty neutral on this. I remember wishing that we could show our skins off during competitive gameplay but also the simple color change to tell team from foe is rather useful.

I’ve been killed multiple times by people I thought were on my team. I might just turn on color blinds settings and make enemies yellow and friendlies purple. Gigz did this and made it much easier.

I just make the enemy pineapple yellow and they glow like a lantern

One game my teammate kept confusing me for an enemy. It was frustrating being shot and grenades thrown at me by this person. But I get why so I wasn’t too upset. However the Spartan’s with the Red whit and blue combo are a little hard for myself to tell whether they are friend or foe at a distance. So I agree to have some kind of option.
