I understand some people may want a battle worn armor but a lot of people also like it how it is now. I would really like a second coating to be made available with a battle-worn preset because to me 343i just said they want to make the armor coating look worse by ruining the shine.
To my knowledge the massive out cry came from the Watch Dog skin being battle-worn instead of Shiny.
So we take a single step forward and then a single step back?

As a 152, I would appreciate a worn option to all of the coatings, but i want what i was promised.
And I’m super happy with the news. But I’m unfamiliar with the red shift issue? Is it similar to the watchdog issue where it isn’t what was promoted?

Also yes it looks a bit cleaner than its promo art. A lot of people like it this way though, i included. They just need to add a clean variant to all coatings and the issue would resolve itself.

Yes i totally agree with this sentiment. I love the current way it looks and would be greatly bothered if it all of a sudden became dirty and worn. Please add a feature to make it look new or old for those who do like it new amd for those who would prefer it worn.

They promoted Red Shift to look dirty and surprisingly it’s super vibrant and good looking. They want to revert it and make it look dirty again.
For watchdog:
It was advertised as clean and came out dirty.

As others have said, the best solution is to give the players the choice how clean or dirty they want their armor to look.
It would be sweet if in the future 343 introduces a slider for each armor coating giving us complete control on how worn the armor looks.

Agree with most here and it’s a view that has been expressed by quite a few players, let players customise how worn they want their armour to be.

I just want my armor clean and new. Too bad everything they put out for free is dirty. I would also be super happy with the version Red Shift is now. Imagine people paying 70 dollars for the clean Red Shift coating and 343 turns it into a regular dirty coating.
An option to choose between clean and dirty should be a no brainer.

There needs to be an option " Off " for Clean " On " for Worn and not just red shift but for all coatings.

I’m just dreaming at this point, but what would have been really cool is if all armors were ‘shiny’ when applied and became weathered over time until changed. Thus that anyone with scuffed armor has been wearing it a while. (Not stupid long. Probably like, a week or so. And the shine could be reset by just reapplying the coating.)
It’s dumb, but I’d dig that little nuance in texture.

I feel like your specific idea would be a little weird to implement, but the similar mechanics have been used in different games. For example, characters getting mud on their boots for walking in mud, or having black scorch marks for being close to a grenade blast are all things that happen in battlefront 1 and 2.
I would say: give the players the option to either have clean or scratched armor in the menu, and that’s what they look like going into every match.
When they take damage or move in different areas, the armor gets dirty. Hell, might as well have blood get on them when they shoot someone at point blank range. When they die, it resets. This kind of atmospheric stuff really helps the immersion for me
