Recurring Technical Issue I Need Help With

I play on pc and have a decent gaming rig that is designed to handle much more resource intensive games than Infinite on the current low-ish settings I use to maximize frame rate and reduce input lag. I can share the specs later when I’m at my house if need be. I have good consistent internet and it is unrelated to either ping or connection.

Very consistently in matches my game will drop down to about 12 fps and stay there until I open up the Xbox game bar app or hit the windows key on my keyboard and then jump back into the game. It seems like it does this at the WORST possible times such as when I’m in a close BR fight or trying to get behind cover. Or the most annoying is when I’m scoped in trying to snipe and it suddenly decides to sputter on me, which has been happening in btb lately. It directly impacted my performance in my ranked placement matches as well, causing me to die in important situations a couple of times, and miss my timing with jumps etc.

I’m asking if this is a common issue and if there is any setting or change that improves it, because it feels like a loading error where the game is updating information on the map or loading outside the draw distance, etc. But I’ve never had a game do this quite like Infinite does and it’s really frustrating.

Please help if possible

Have you turned off the game capture settings in Windows? There’s known issues per the Halo Support site for Infinite with the game capture settings being enabled.

The Background Recording feature in Windows 10 or the Record What Happened feature in Windows 11 can cause performance issues when enabled.

  • Turning these features off improves performance. They can be found in the Capture Settings
(https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/games-apps/game-setup-and-play/adjust-capture-settings-windows-10) menu of Windows 10 and the Captures menu of Windows 11.

I have not, I’ll try that tonight and see if it fixes the issue. Thank you

But that also leaves me with a different problem, because I wouldn’t be able to save clips of important plays etc since theater is broken…

It’s annoying that I would have to choose

You would still be able to use the nvidia overlay to record (if you’re on an nvidia card). It might not even be related to your issue, but is something to check out given that it seems related to a Windows/Xbox Game Bar process, and that Windows recording feature definitely ties in.

Either way, check out the known issues for sure: https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/4410503691796-Halo-Infinite-Multiplayer-Known-Issues
