Does anyone know how to tell the difference between a troll and an actually interested recruit when you set up recruitment games?
No. You just have to cross your fingers and hope that they aren’t interested in messing with you. Not even asking them will give you a straight answer. Trolls can be deep and conniving. I know, I’ve been one before. If someone wants to troll you, there is no countermeasure.
The only way to permanently deal with them is to basically not do recruitment servers.
If you have clan size to support it, create a pool of newbies and have them separate from the rest. This way if they’re trolls, spies, saboteurs, etc., then they cannot interfere with mainstream clan business.
Like I said, though, it only can work if you have numbers to support a split section.

Wish there was a better answer for you mate.
As others said there isn’t really a way to tell from the get go the intentions of someone,you’ll have to wait and see, going to lock this up since it really isn’t recruiting for anything.
