Recording Clips without Kinect

Is it possible to record clips if you don’t have a Kinect? Is there a way to go into the theater and record something?

Of course. You don’t need Kinect to record the game. If you double tap the Xbox button you get the option to record the game.

I’ve tried the double tap Xbox button and it doesn’t do anything for me. Not sure what’s up with that. You need to Download the Upload Studio app, or at least this will definitely help. It will have an option to start a new game clip, than snap the Xbox dvr onto your screen. Open up Halo 5, go into Theater and prepare to record what you want. You need to switch between Halo and the dvr, but it will record and you can share your clips that way. I always have to trim my videos though becuase it take time to switch between the dvr and the game while it’s recording. Took me awhile to figure this out, but it will work.

Thanks, I’ll try that tonight. It was so much easier in H3 when the record option was right in Theater. I know they want to integrate the Xbox DVR, but its mostly just annoying.

You must snap Game DVR to home screen and then double tap Xbox button and press: X for record and Y for screenshot

game dvr will record either the next 5 mins or the last 5 mins. and double tap xbox button and press x will give you the last 30 seconds.

Double tap the xbox button on your controller and press X, Y is just for pictures

Thanks all!

this. no need for the DVR to be snapped. this feature will do the last 30 seconds or so.

If you snap the DVR you can do longer clips.

Thanks for posting this. Helped me a lot.

the new official MS xbone chatpad has shortcut Keyes for that kinda stuff.

That…that right there is great. Didn’t catch that initially

While I do like that the XBO features the record function for recording game clips I’d much rather prefer a Halo dedicated one in future updates for theatre mode as it’s pretty basic with not even the bare essentials atm like screenshot capture or even a visable timeline to help navigate each clip.

I know they’re fixing the zoomless free-cam in the next update so atleast theres that. but when it comes to video making and other capture content. it seems like the older systems worked a lot better and I would like to see them return when the fileshares start to go online.

Exactly. I used to make community montages, and I want to again for Halo 5 but simply can’t with this theater because you can’t send clips to anyone. Sure I could say to people, “DVR it and sent it to me and I’ll compile them into a montage” But then I’d be stuck with whatever terrible camera angle the average theater user comes up with. Can’t recam someone’s DVR-ed clip.

That’s because the fileshare isn’t up yet. It’s suppossed to come with the update next week.

I’m pretty sure those buttons don’t do anything yet. The website says that that functionality is coming in early 2016.

Right, but they only mentioned sharing gametypes and maps. Unless I missed it, they didn’t mention being able to share films. I’m crossing my fingers they simply didn’t mention it, but if they don’t include it, I guess I’m just out of luck :frowning:

It is suppose to be a super basic file sharing system at first. I would say you will not be able to share film with it but I have no sources for this. Hopefully, and I’m sure they will, upgrade it in a later patch to its full functionality/capability.

Double tap the home button, then press "X’. I’ve never had a kinect ever, and I have over 100 clips
