Recon Layout Flaw (Can't Aim!)

You cannot groundpound and aim at the same time while using recon, because you cannot have B pressed while moving the right thumbstick, unless you move your left thumb all the way across the controller to the right thumbstick. This could be fixed by changing the aim while ground pounding to the left thumbstick in the recon layout.

I don’t know why they switched it in the first place - what was wrong with having the Ground Pound aiming on the left stick? :frowning:

No idea, maybe it conflicted with another layout.

I know what you mean. I also did post a topic about this. People say you can make your own button mapping on xbox accesoires app but I did not find it for the ground pound.

They switched it so it wouldn’t prevent you from crouch-jumping. In the beta you couldn’t crouch jump at all because it would initiate a ground pound.

All controller-related issues should be fixed with an upcoming Xbox One hardware update, which will allow for manual button remapping like that of the Xbox Elite controller. Just hold out until then (I think the remapping comes with the November update, but don’t quote me on it).

One way to fix that would be to quickly use the “claw” grip, where you keep your right thumb on the right stick but take your right pointer finger and use the side of it to press the button. This assumes you hold the controller correctly, however (middle fingers on the triggers, pointer fingers on the bumpers). I use Bumper Jumper, so my sprint is A, my thruster pack is X, and my reload is B. I use the claw to quickly press those buttons without having to stop aiming. It should help if you can manage to learn it.

Controller remap won’t work for this instance. We like melee as the B button. (Yes we’re wrong for this opinion.) The mentality is to hold melee in mid air to do the ground pound. We don’t want to go southpaw on the sticks full time, we only need it during the ground pound build up charge. This has to be done with the game code. So, 343… For the love of all of us stuck on Halo 3 Recon scheme, switch the aim for ground pound to left stick after the charge.

You will be able to configure a standard controller in the Big November update like the elite controller ,so you can set what buttons you like on what ever layout you like

I see what you mean, considering that no matter what you remap it to that button is still the ground pound. If you like the B button as your melee I’m afraid you’re going to either have to start using the claw or just move on. I’m sorry, but I would be infuriated if they switched it back to the left stick. No more crouch jumps if they do that, and that was a problem in the beta. Quite frankly, I’m not sacrificing crouch jumping so that you can hold on to a control scheme almost a decade old. Not trying to be hostile but seriously.

I don’t mean change the melee button, I mean changing the actual looking around while ground pounding to left stick.

I have an idea… may take a little bit to get used to but I love the layout I am using… Switch your controls to Green Thumb then just swap the bumpers in the Xbox Accessories App. Makes everything feel really fluid and I can use all abilities just fine.

You know what man, I had this complaint early on as well. When ground-pounding, I learned to reach over with my left thumb and use that to control the stick. I have sort of big hands so it might not work for everybody, but it was quite effective. I became a ground-pounding machine

Good to hear someone else is still doing it!
