I know this may be a dumb question but just looking for an answer. I have Recon armor in Halo 3 so not asking if it is possible to get it. My question is, if I have it is there any way to use it offline? I don’t get to play a lot with school, work, etc., but, sometimes me and my friends get together and have big LAN party. It doesn’t happen much but I hate that (at least to my knowledge) my Recon gets taken away when I’m offline and I can’t use it. I know it is probably a no but can anyone confirm? Thanks!
Once an armour is unlocked in the game it stays unlocked.

Right is stays unlocked online. Every time I play a game offline through system link or split screen it goes away until I reconnect to Xbox Live. If yours works offline can you tell me how you make it work?
Do you use the same Xbox when you play with your friends? If not, it might be that the Xbox you’re using needs to do a quick sync before showing Recon in the menus.

Yeah it’s the same Xbox. I can literally have it on Xbox Live then take off my wireless network adaptor (360) or disconnect from wifi (Xbox One) and it will just go away. It’s so frustrating to me.

Armor does nothing so why is this even a concern? It’s not like it(or any other unlockable piece for that matter) affects gameplay in any way so you’re not losing out on any particular advantage over other players.

Because like I said in the post I just want to use it when I actually get to play with my friends. I grinded to get it so I’d like to be able to use it whether I’m online or offline. I know it doesn’t give me an advantage and in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter if I have it or not offline I was just asking anyone if they had a solution just in case. Questions never hurt anyone.

Why though? It has zero affect on anything. You can’t even see any of the armor variants when you play. Am I missing something?

I dug around a bit and found this comment on an old post. Apparently, Recon has never been available offline.
I also found a couple threads on Waypoint and GameFAQs discussing similar topics. Those seem to be related to the recent server issues and not having all the achievements unlocked, respectively. Regardless, I think the solution is to be connected to Live to have access to Recon.

Yeah it really is. It’s understandable and fair I think, but admittedly a hinderance for situations like LAN parties. I didn’t know being connected to Live was a requirement until coming across this post.

So the Recon armor that I had worked my -Yoink- off for by doing all of the Vidmaster achievements across Halo 3 and ODST back in 2009, the very same Recon armor that I proudly continue to wear in my original Halo 3 game to this day, is only available if I’m connected online?
So basically if Microsoft ever decides to shut down Xbox Live servers permanently on Xbox 360 consoles, the Recon armor goes away. -Yoinking!- perfect. But I guess I should be happy, since 343 decided to have that armor (and the formerly exclusive to Bungie employees “flaming head” armor) unlocked from the get-go in MCC. Still really miffed that this never got patched or anything. I have all the achievements for Halo 3 as well as ODST.

Yeah that’s how I felt about it. I do think it will be a long time before Xbox 360 servers go down (or at least I hope so). I know a lot of people that aren’t in the Halo community don’t get it and think I’m dumb for still playing a game so old but, it’s my favorite game ever and it is the only game I really put a TON of time in because I love it. Some people just don’t understand how important something like an armor is even though it doesn’t do anything in particular as an “advantage”. It’s my identity in the game and I hate losing that.

I’m with you, it’s my favorite game too, but as for the various armor pieces none of them actually do anything so they’re absolutely pointless. Even the pre-order and limited/legendary edition ones. No matter what your character looks like(which you can’t even see in-game anyway) you’ll be on the same playing field whether you’re a recruit or an inheritor.
