Recent Region Lock Changes

I heard that sometime recently within the last few weeks they removed the region lock so players can join servers based in/set for other countries, however it’s put.

I have been getting roughly 0.5 seconds of delay over the last few days/week(s) as I’ve been playing. Doesn’t sound like much but without that delay I was losing far less gun fights, yet now I trade kills (get killed by the same player I just killed) far more often due to this delay. Grifball, purely based on timing due to instakill weapons, is unplayable with this delay.

I decided to message the seven people from the match I was in with just before, before closing Halo. Six of the seven players replied and here are the results. Mind you, the one who didn’t reply was speaking a different language in game chat, so perhaps he didn’t reply because he didn’t understand my message.

So I guess that explains my delay… Removing the region lock, whilst it gives us more people to play with, ruins the experience for me personally. I can no longer find fair connection anymore except for the rare occasion.

Is there any chance we could get the filtering back so I strictly find players within my own region (Australia)? Or even add an option, give players the choice as to whether or not they want to be put in mixed servers outside of their region? It’s no longer fair, more populated countries (gamer wise) probably don’t have as hard of a time but I find hardly any Australians in any game I play, let alone Halo.

Halo 5 provided me with solid, fair connection making it the most enjoyable multiplayer game I had available but this has honestly ruined it for me. I can’t play Grifball anymore. I even have a clip I recorded where I kill a player, you hear their Spartan groan due to the death, and then their ragdolling corpse kills me.

Anyone else having the same sort of delay/issue? The multiplayer experience was far better prior, I may have had less people to play with/find upon searching, but at least the ones I found were going to provide a fair fight in terms of connection.

TL;DR - I’m Australian, I rarely find Australian players anymore, last game I played consisted of six players from different countries. Without the region lock/filtered searching, I now get delay that makes Grifball unplayable, disadvantaged gunfights and trading kills constantly takes place. Please bring back the region lock, I’d prefer only to play with Australians because the delay with anyone else just isn’t enjoyable. :frowning:

Well they are providing search options in the upcoming update
Wait to see how it turns out

“Preferences” won’t help this issue
here’s how the preference system is work and undoubtably fail

–player sets search preference
–game begins searching using preference
–game finds no matchs
–game proceeds to search outside of the preference parameters

To be honest I am expecting this search preference update to just put us straight back into the
searching for players…
players found…
Searching for more players…
restarting search…

Iv’e got 10$ that says the search preference update breaks matchmaking

Well it’s unbearable as is. It mightn’t sound like such a big deal to some individuals but half a second of lag is usually make or break in gunfights.

Since these revent changes, I now have to lead shots, predict which way players will be moving and shoot there instead of where they currently are on my screen. It’s painful.

I seriously cannot play Grifball now. The entire scheme of that mode is instakill weapons, not bullets, not damage overtime, instakill, and due to delay, it’s just broken. I’ve even used the Grav Hammer, killed someone, boosted back, THEN been killed by them as if we hit each other at the same time, after I’ve already killed them.

I can no longer enjoy playing this game unless it’s AUS prime time which is a brief three or four hour window at night. I have to avoid melee at all costs because they’ll have an extra half a second to hit me back and result in a trade rather than giving me the kill.

Since finding out the numerous countries I found in one match, I’ve stopped playing and have been playing Battlefield. Battlefield has a remarkable system where you can select servers manually. Dedicated Servers in Halo 5 are now useless because those dedicated servers I’m finding are providing me with delay.

I know it’s a rant, but in first person shooters or shooting games in general, timing is everything and delay is a deal breaker. I’m not joking around when I say I play better when the delay isn’t present, I played a game of Grifball days ago without delay where I got 106 kills and roughly 35 deaths. Yet, any delayed Grifball game I play, I die every time I kill someone, the only time this doesn’t happen is if I kill them when they aren’t aware I’m behind them. Half the time my swings don’t even connect because in the half a second it took to make my swing hit, they hit back and I died before it could be successful so it’s like I never swung. I even boost jump over players, then they kill me facing away from me with the Energy Sword, because on their screen I’m still in front of them and haven’t boosted over their head yet.

It is now unplayable. Not literally - I can still play, but it’s unenjoyable to the point where I’ve stopped playing for a bit just because I’m sick of the unfair connection. This was Destiny’s downfall when Bungie prioritised skill over connection when matchmaking and I haven’t played that since due to that change, and that was months ago…

Well im going to try and be a bit more positive. Heres the positive point… We can only “hope” 343 did a good job with this. :-/ Now the bad part… 343 hasn’t been really great at things like this. One thing about this update is there still is a lot of unknowns… How will this really work. The more I read closely about this match making preference makes me feel very leary. Somehow they thought to add skill in with the mix… Which at first it sounds like a good idea… But really they should of kept this simple by just giving us an option of server selection based on ping. Then we know exactly what our ping rate is and can judge what kind of game experience it will be. My other question is if I select the “focus” option will that time out after a period of time and through me back into default setting with out even letting me know?? Yikes!! I hope not… But many unknowns at this point. This is update will be a make or break deal for me.

I feel your pain, it’s the same for me.

It’s fine for me, and I’m able to play not only at “peak times” but when I like to play

Yes it’s absolutely awful at the moment, and 343 in their infinite wisdom have decided to lump skill and connection together in matchmaking preferences. So it’s going to be an extremely long wait time, or a laggy game. SMH!

That image says it all though, Australians playing with UK players lol! Could the game be any more broken? We’re literally on the other side of the world from each other, I’m sure there’s enough players in each country to get a game with, without having to connect to people on the other side of the globe.

I think that any lag with a dedicated server is just the client’s connection that has issues if they experience lag.

One of the most ignorant statements I’ve ever read.
