Every Halo game since Halo 3, the community becomes more divided. Now with Halo 5 it seems the majority of the community isn’t happy with 343’s direction is Halo for a number of reasons both technical and personal. I think that to be honest, the Halo story is becoming stale. That’s not the fault of 343’s writing per se, but I think they made a bad move back in 2011 to create a new story arc entirely. They forgot the entire purpose of Halo was the war against the Covenant. The backstory with the Forerunners etc was more of a catch to draw you into the lore and to develop the lore, not a means to create a whole story arc from it. The community, judging by the constant threads pining for the past, want a carbon copy of Halo 3 back. The same UI, the same music, the same game modes and playlists, the same after match sequence, the same ranks, the same armour etc etc.
My proposal therefore is for 343 to give Halo 6 a rest for now, or at least work on a project alongside. The failure of the MCC and the bitter disappointment of the community shows theres demand for Halo to hark back to its roots. One way this can be done is to create an ODST/Reach style side game from the main story, set in the the days before Halo 1, before Chief is placed in cryro-sleep. This would give a chance to bring back all the original characters, and send Halo back to the true days of spaceships and sci fi and away from the wishy-washy, over juiced action and mystery of the Forerunner saga. It dosen’t have to have an overly long campaign, perhaps the same length as Halo 5, but if it proves to be successful, perhaps 343 could model Halo 6 on the Halos 1-3, instead of its new take.

that’s where i call bs, i think Bungie was just lazy and not as passionate about the whole EU like 343i is.
sure, we had some great books, but nothing really important from them was ever added to the games.
the books were the books, the games the games. but by diving deeper into the mysteries of the forerunes
and precursors was the best thing 343i could do, and they at least care about the lore & keeping it altogether connected
and in line with everything (looking at you, Halo Reach).

On the contrary, from any clear and non-biased observation, most of the community enjoys Halo 5. It’s mostly the vocal minority on the Internet that don’t like its direction.

The book “The Fall of Reach” would be your best bet, good book too. And the forerunner were a part of Halo’s story not just the war with the covenant. That’s where Halo got it’s name from - the “halos” the ring installations that a crazy old monitor from Halo 1 tried to kill everyone with.

I have to stop you right here. We do not know who is the minority or the majority. You are assuming. Even though I like your post, not knowing what is what in regards to the consumer base, it’s hard to make this type of analysis.

The thing about the Forerunners were, their concealment is what made me more interested in the lore. It was almost as if Halo had its own skeletons in the closet that it couldn’t let out, and you yourself had to do the digging in terminals and books. I spent my days on Halo Wikia when I was 16 researching the Forerunners and reading about the Rings. When 4 came along it all seemed like a long wait for nothing. Partly because the view that was conveyed before 4 that the Forerunners were these sacred guardians of the galaxy was suddenly replaced by the Didact’s bloodthirsty nature. I’m not sure if the chicken came before the egg with 343 and the Forerunners- i.e whether 343 wanted to make a new story arc, and the only material they could think of involved the Forerunners. Or the Forerunners was an area of Halo where they desperately wanted to explore. But regardless, they have not, and will not replace the dread, fear and emotion you felt when fighting the Covenant.
Kill off main protagonists. Halo 5 stands out as the only Halo where no hero dies resulting in a captivating and emotional experience followed by its great music composition we all know and love.

> The reason why I think its a majority is because out of every “what do you miss about Halo 3” or “Halo 5 is depressing because it doesn’t feel like Halo” posts, the respondents, are mostly agreeing with the OP. In the Halo 4 days, such posts were harder to gather traction. They were numerous of course, but they died quickly. The Halo 5 sub-forum in the past month or so has been completely full with discontent, or for the same reason that it is not the Halo we used to know.
