This is more of a peaceful discussion or “hey i had an idea what do ya’ll think.” post. If anyone has a link totally debunking me or this has already been discussed I’ll be fine with that and im sorry i hadn’t seen it.
So i thought of this a little bit due to the dislike from playlists being taken down and being replaced with new or re-used modes. With action sack coming out (Thanks 343 can’t wait to play it) i have seen comments of “Yay its here, can’t wait to see it taken down and not seen again for a month or more >.>” I don’t think action sack will be taken down as quickly as other modes we have seen such as snipers, doubles, ect. Now why are they taken down and also while talking about it why do we see so few modes at one time compared to H:3 and Reach?
Population management
I’m not saying our population is low or high just a heads up. I do think though having to many modes is detrimental. In a perfect world we would have every mode, all at once, each with a thriving population. That’s not the case though, for those who played Reach remember seeing all the populations and some of them just being… depressing? Some having less then 100 people, some having much more, example the core ones like slayer, swat and such. First off seeing those numbers deterred me from some of those modes so I am glad they don’t show the numbers. Also if we have less modes we keep the community from being so split. Keeping them condensed together so that finding games is easier and there is of a variation in the kinds of players in it besides just hardcore fans of those modes.
Now as for rotating the game modes. When something new comes out people want to enjoy it and try it out, especially if they know it will go away at some point. They know since it will disappear then they can take a break from the core game modes and try out this change, this breath of fresh air. If it stays though then it starts to become stale and you just go back to game modes you prefer or know are balanced and aren’t as frustrating. There numbers then dwindle after the initial release. With the game modes sitting there they just become a second thought, why would you go back? and random itch?
If you keep core modes such as slayer, objective, BTB, and Warzone people will obviously populate them. There is just enough variation in the games. These are core parts and more balanced version of the game. They each offer most of what the game has to offers being fun AND competitive (excluding warzone a little bit). Then every now and again throw in doubles, action sack, infection, griffball. snipers, rockets. People will flood those game modes enjoy them and as long as you keep the playlist numbers small people will always find games. Then as game modes reach a low number you take it out, leave that slot empty for a while and then add another one to replace it. Thus starting the cycle again. “Oh i heard they added this wanna go play it instead of what we always play while its out?”
any who that’s all
TL;DR Large number of playlists spreads the community to much. Keeping it small by having core permanent modes and then having ones that cycle in and out with each other helps keep the community condensed. Fun extra side modes then also stay fresh and not get stale and under populated by being in forever.
