Reason for duel wielding not making a return

I’m not asking for duel wielding to return all I am asking is for someone to please give me a legitimate reason for it not coming to the world of Halo 4 because I personally think that if implemented right it would vastly improve the sandbox.

Balance issues, that’s the number one reason I see pointed out.

can you please elaborate on how it effects balance

Because spartans aren’t strong enough to lift two guns and the master cheif has been sleeping for 4 years. You’re going to lose some muscle after that.

I’d imagine it’s because things like the AR and Storm Rifle are to be encouraged in use at close range. Halo 2 dual-wielding was insane pre-TU and in Halo 3 it was basically a gag tactic.

But like I said, the AR and Storm Rifle and any other CQC weapon look sufficient enough. When you have loadouts based on close-range dominance like the shotgun, AR, and Storm Rifle, it would seem a bit counter-productive to suddenly negate that.

In the end, though, I’m not a sandbox designer. This is just my guess. I am indifferent to whether or not it’s in the game.

Balance.

If dual wielding was in then to make sure it was not over powered, each individual gun would have to be weaker, which messes up the sandbox and creates useless guns.

Correct, if you balance a weapon to be balanced with other weapons, and then you pick up another of that same weapon, the balance has shifted from it being equal with other weapons to two of those weapons can over take any weapon.

If Dual wielding was only in Campaign, it would be fun, because then you wouldn’t have to worry much about balance, but, then you run into the problem of people complaining about the fact that the feature is in campaign only, and not MP.

two pistols could be op, if they were identical to how the pistol is now.

But the issue with dual wielding is that dual wieldable weapons are almost worthless by themselves. That was the issue with H2. If you couldnt find a BR or another weapon to dual wield with the smg, you were at a disadvantage. In h3 they changed the concept that when you dual wielded the weapons power actually dropped in favor for more firepower. But the SMG, Plasma Pistol, Plasma Reifle and Brute Spiker felt like they couldnt compare to the AR, BR, Carbine and most other non-dual wielding weapons.

In Halo 4, 343 wants to make all weapons in the sandbox worth using. I dont want to see the pistol as worthless as it was in Halo 3.

I’m sure I read 343 legitimately tried getting it back with extensive play-testing but they couldn’t get the balance right?

I’m not overly bothered about dual-wielding myself. Shame for those who do want it.

The weapons either come out op or underpowered. If the weapon is decent on its own when dual wielded the combo becomes op. If the combo is fine then the weapons by themselves are underpowered.

This isn’t to say its black and white and these are the only two outcomes but the fact is the line between these two territories is so thin its nearly impossible to get it right.

Example:

Plasma Pistol/Magnum Combo

T’was a very annoying thing in Halo 3. It’s like the noob combo, only you didn’t have to switch. Then combine a shield popper with a health grinder and you’ve got an incredibly unbalanced game.

There are various other reasons, such as dual wieldable weapons being under powered alone or being overpowered when paired with specific weapons.

It would be cool if you could dual swords or a sword and pistols

With the new plasma pistol and new magnum combined, nothing would be alive, OP. Nothing.

Let’s just leave it at that.

> It would be cool if you could dual swords or a sword and pistols

That would be over powered, and cause more people to go ape crap, more so than armor lock!

Lol

It’s hard to balance.

Hopefully, it comes back in Halo 5. I was and still am hugely disappointed by the news.

Dual-Wielding was in Halo 4 at first. however, due to balance issues (Sprint, Custom Classes), Dual-Wielding quickly proved to be overpowered, so they got rid of it.

Because you would either end up with a bunch of half-weapons that are only useful when dual wielded or you would end up with a bunch of weapons that are OP when dual wielded.
