Reason behind Competitive Vs. Casual

There are not many true CoD or FPS fans that won’t admit that Halo is a much more skillful game and that competitive gaming basically started with Halo. Each and every true hardcore CoD fan over the age of 15 will honestly admit that Gaming wouldn’t be the same without Halo, hell, XBL might not even be around if it weren’t for Halo 2’s success.

If I had to guess, 99% of the CoD pro’s started on Halo but, because Halo 3 released in '07 players were starting to die down and the drastic downFall of Reach (…see what I did there?) was an even worse hit to the Halo franchise…

Halo was no longer relevant to E-Sports or even the casual crowd.

Which brings me to my final point, if there is no real competition while playing (i.e. too much catering to casuals only) the game will quickly become dull for ALL players. Players will lack incentive to perform well, get better or rank up (especially newcomers to the franchise)

This will stab Halo 4 in the heart if not taken into consideration by 343i.

Us competitive players know that if Halo wants to claim this powerful throne in the world of gaming again, it must cater to the competitive crowd just as much as the casual. Ranks and all… because I don’t care how “casual” you are it’s Halo and everyone who plays this game becomes slightly competitive about it. And every casual player occasionally hops into ranked to test their skill if they’re having a good day… keep in mind that that’s how it all began(Halo 2 rumble pit anyone…?)

I love playing because it is simply fun, but in all honesty, no one likes to lose. There is no arguing about that…

This is the reason why us competitive players are so passionate and disquieted about halo 4’s competitive side… this game will fail if it lacks this side of the spectrum…

Thank you. It has to cater to both like you said. Finally someone who understands this! People just say “Only competitive. Or only Casual!” No, we have to do both. We have to make a game for everyone to enjoy. Because we would have no fun playing a casual game, and they will have no fun playing a comptetitive game. That is just how the world works today.

We dont know enough about the changes to judge if they are competitive or not however/ Just wait for a bit… Plus there are always the Classic playlists?

I agree sooo much.

Reach didn’t cater to us, but 343i released the TU which helped the game get better.

I love ZB MLG.

You’re a gentleman and a scholar, good sir.

But really, you’re right on point. Almost all of my friends stopped playing halo because they had no incentive anymore, without a skill based ranked playlist it died for them and me, too, eventually. There needs to be a social playlist as well, because not everyone wants to have that rank by their name, some players might even get discouraged and stop palying if they were stuck at a low level and couldn’t progress.

the problem is that good players think they are better then everyone else…

> the problem is that good players think they are better then everyone else…

They are. The problem is bad players can’t accept their place on the ladder and don’t want to be told their bad, whether by the game or others.

I find it friggin hilarious how much of a “heroic crusade” a lot of self-titled “competitive” players are being, acting like they’re in a brutal battle to “bring back Halo” and trying to force everybody into one of two sides of simple labels with their mentality of “us versus them”.

Better at the game maybe, but that in no way means their opinion matters more. This is why the community is split. This is why we cant work toghter. This is a game for all of us, it doesnt revolve around you. Get used to it.

My numbers are higher then yours, therefor everybody should listen to how I would direct this game that obviously belongs to me and you deserve to be spammed with insults!

I’m sorry, this is not a 4th grade gym class. Unfortunately, there is a winner. There has to be.

Everyone gets a ribbon for winning though, it’s called spartan points. Just not everyone gets a shiny gold ribbon or reef… that’s reserved for the winners, and that’s how it should be.

Let us have our reefs, and can horde your Spartan points. Hell, I’ll even give you my spartan points in exchange for an easy win.

If only that were possible.

pretty much, i didn’t mean in game but general attitude.

umm well we love halo, and we know what made halo what it was since we grew up with it. Players who hopped on at H3dont always have the best insight on things.

But dont think its any coincidence that halo lost its competitive merit and suddenly went from neck and neck with COD to being beaten by a damn soccer game LOL.

Actionsak is a must. so is LD and griffbal.

But so is 1-50 team slayer that is BS free.

All of the greatest casual mini games came out of the most competitive halo games. What new halo mini game phenomena has come out of reach? The game needs both aspects to thrive and take its rightful place.

If you are so selfish that you dont want to see your favorite franchise be what it was then you really should leave

My numbers are that way because i started off reach badly :D! My K/D Ratio has absolutely nothing to do with how well i acctually play :D!

But yes, i have actually seen someone say that and mean it. They said “If there is an argumnet on the forums, i always side with the person with the best K/d Ratio…”

That too… its rather annoying. All our opinions are equal, why must we be frowned upod for disagreeing with eachother?

good players only think they are better than other when those other crows start suggesting kill streaks or embracing invisibility on demand or making other powerups available off spawn, or changing the mechanics that made halo the juggernaut it is/was. Good players got good becuase they loved the gameplay and got hooked on it and for 12 years never put it down. What are we supposed to think when people start jumping on telling us that there was never an issue with bloom, or that uneven spawns are fine.

Just cuz i took college level physics doesnt mean i can go up to a nobel prize laureate in the field and tell him what should change about the field.

He means in general attitude. Our opinions are all equal, so why frown on eachother because we disagree? Your opinion matters no more than mine does, so why would you flame me if i disagreed with you?

you disagree with me? go away troll!

i don’t know, people seem to be under the impression that there opinion is greater then someone else, gets even worse when they have no idea what they’re talking about.

its also impossible to get us to all get a long, we’d all much wrather live in our own little buble and attack anyone who tells us we’re wrong because we thought we were right and our parents and friends re-inforced the ignorance.

i hate this world, can i choose a different one please?

No, they’re not. Other people have a more educated opinion than others. It’s life. A primary school kid doesn’t know more about the medical world than a doctor does. Likewise, a good player is going to understand the game better than a bad player.

> I find it friggin hilarious how much of a “heroic crusade” a lot of self-titled “competitive” players are being, acting like they’re in a brutal battle to “bring back Halo” and trying to force everybody into one of two sides of simple labels with their mentality of “us versus them”.

I find it hilarious that you don’t see the correlation between a successful Halo game and a competitive Halo game.

It is staring you in the face. I even broke it down for you in elementary terms in my post, but apparently you can’t even see that… You should consider actually reading it because clearly, you just hopped right over that paragraph…

I hate this childish mentality people seem to have now that everyone is equal and everyone deserves to be a winner. I’m sorry, but that’s not how this world turns. You folks who follow this mentality are in for a crude awakening in the real world. Job’s depend on desire and performance and other harsh factors like politics, College admittance, social circles, promotions, share holder commitee’s.

It truly is a dog eat dog world and if you’re not even willing to accept that in a video game, I can’t imagine what you’re going to go through when you get into the real world.

Halo 4 needs to cater to both competitive and social players

the competitive guys were left out in the cold for reach (lolarena)

in h2 and h3, both sides were catered for, ranked playlists for the competitive more serious players and social for the more fun casual players, it kept both parties happy

in reach, this balance was tipped to one side, and it pi$$ed off alot of people

competitive players don’t hate casual players and vice versa, competitive players just hate the fact they didn’t have any real place to play in reach which is completely understandable

343 have a chance to fix this, return balance to the force, and keep both sides happy

weather they will or not, we’ll have to wait and see, but it’d be a big mistake if they decide no too
