Really THAT bad?

So after putting countless hours in the Halo series (games and books,) I look to buy an XB1 again as there is a nice deal in UK. I always read how terrible this game is. I still love Halo Multiplayer and liked even Halo 4.

Will I also like H5? I mean are people whining at a high level and I will still be able to put a lot of hours in this game? I play mostly team slayer.

If you liked Halo 4, then maybe you might enjoy Halo 5. Have you ever considered buying other games?

I would get NHL and the MCC collection for sure. Halo 4 was my least favorite Halo but I still liked it as a video game.

There are both great parts and terrible parts of Halo 5. As much as I complain about the downsides of the game (which, if you’ve seen my posts on here, I do with a fiery passion, since I believe that there are many), I do enjoy the gameplay of Halo 5, and consider it to be an upgrade over Halo 4 in terms of gameplay.

But honestly, the best thing you can do is play and decide for yourself what you think about it. Some people love Halo 4 and love Halo 5, some people hate one but love the other. The only person who can tell if you like it is, well, you.

You should definitely enjoy this game then. If you asked me this same question at launch, I would have told you no. But now, almost a year later, it is finally almost complete and has really evolved to be a fantastic multiplayer experience. The campaign actually was not as bad as people say (THE STORY SUCKED, BUT THE LEVEL DESIGN AND SANDBOX AND VEHICLES WERE JUST AS GREAT AS PREVIOUS HALOS, ESPCIALLY THE SANGHELIOS LEVELS). You should definitely buy it now.

Okay great to hear. Thank you

Have you tried watching some more recent videos of Halo 5 gameplay? Might help you decide if you like it or not.

Yeah they look goid to me, really wanted to play when I saw them. I just read so many complains here which made me unsure.

The campaign gets way more hate than it deserves. The script wasn’t the best but the plot isn’t that bad. Not sure how much you know about H5 so won’t get into it that much but my #1 advice for Xbox one is don’t waste your money on a 500g version. H5 is 91g by itself! MCC is 70g. GTA5 is 66g… games take up a lot of space so unless you don’t mind external hard drives get the one terabyte system.

Well, if they look good to you, I’d say you should get Halo 5 then. I’ve heard there still are server issues in most of Europe, though, so your experience might be a bit different depending on who you watched, since you’re in the UK.

I would hardly call the game complete. There are still so many issues (crappy UI, bugs/glitches everywhere) and so many features missing that were standard in past Halo games, including 20+ gamemodes.

Is the game less incomplete than it was at launch, and at a more acceptable state? Most definitely. Is it up to par with other Halo games? Far from it.

500g should be enough. I mainly play on PC so the One would just be for exclusives.

The game is very complete. Just because it doesn’t have a few game modes doesn’t make it incomplete. All that isn’t there are some objective game modes essentially.

A few game modes? King of the Hill, 1-flag, Oddball (at least in matchmaking), Headhunter, Stockpile, Race, Rocket Race, Big Team Heavies, Assault in BTB, Firefight, Infection variants, 2-bomb assault and multi-team are just a few out of many missing gametypes in Halo 5. More than a few. Believe it or not, many players are not happy with playing nothing but Slayer, CTF, Assault and Strongholds all day.

Not every Halo comes with modes previous games had. Some of those were in Reach only so was H4 incomplete because it didn’t have stockpile? Like I said there are essentially some objective game modes not featured but they made breakout isn’t that practically a one flag game. H5 was geared more towards competitive play so that is why some of those other game modes aren’t in the game.

At least Halo 4 had an acceptable amount of gametypes, with the classics that were in since Halo 1 (Oddball, KotH)… But yes, Halo 4 did feel incomplete following Reach, since it started moving backwards rather than forwards, by removing stuff rather than adding it in. It removed many things that fans liked of the series, such as playable Elites, Firefight and several gametypes. Not to mention that they neutered Infection and custom game options. But at least, despite its flaws and terrible gameplay, Halo 4 had developer BTB maps and many core Halo elements that Halo 5 does not.

And yes, Halo 5 was built to cater purely to the competitive gameplay, and that was a huge mistake, as big of a mistake as Halo 4 being catered solely to casual play. A proper Halo game should cater to both sides, and give plenty of options for all sorts of players. Neither one of 343i’s Halo games have done that so far. So I would consider both of 343’s Halo games to be “incomplete”, but Halo 5 to a higher degree than Halo 4.

If you liked Halo 4 then you’d probably even be happy with an empty plastic bag blowing in the wind.

…no, you won’t like Halo 5.

Just kidding…you’ll like it a bit.

It’s pretty good, you’ll like it. Especially if you liked all the other ones.

Only if the plastic bag was held tightly over my head.
