Been playing Halo 3 lately because I hate Halo 4 so much and I’ve come to realize a few things.
First of all, Hitscan is childs play compared to projectile fire. Anyone can get 5 shots in halo 4. Your strafe is almost pointless at this point because of: massive bullet magnetism, insane aim assist, and hitscan. It’s so hard to miss shots in this game it’s insulting. I miss projectile bullet registration so much.
Secondly, The BR should be a 4sk. It really should. It just feels so much better. This is purely opinion based on nostalgia, but really. This should happen. Slightly lower the rate of fire, up the damage, and make it a 4sk comparable with the DMRs 5sk. Solves all my problems.
thirdly, I miss in game ranks. Always have, and I’ll bet I always will. This game would benefit so much from a VIGR it’s not even funny. But alas, that would make little Timmy realize how much worse he is at the game than he thinks. And that’s completely opposite of what 343i wants.

Yeah, especially the magnetism on the DMR. They’re trying to bridge the skill gap.

Controversial, but I agree with you. Making the BR a 4SK and decreasing the fire rate would make it viable and give people a reason to use it.

Couldn’t agree more.
3/3, Multichem. Winning post.
I just wanted to say that the dude who wrote this is a hero and should be commended. I’ve went back to Halo 3 a few times too. I would add that the maps need to be designed better too (or they should add a heap of forged maps). There needs to be a choke-point on each map like in Halo 3:
In Valhalla, Isolation, Snowbound (to a degree), The Pit, etc. you needed to hold down the center of the map or you would lose.
Furthermore, you needed the power weapons or you would lose. You needed to communicate or you would lose. You needed to know the maps completely (!) or you would lose. I feel like none of that matters in Halo 4. And I’ll never get the idea to bring in Sprint. That design decision baffles me. Add in a game option (i.e. Binary Slayer) to make the dude faster. Redundant. But, I’m no game designer.
Op is spot on. Also I’d like to add that I just realized throwing plasma grenades is a different experience. there’s actually a slight wind up to throw them. And you can’t throw your second grenade instantly. It’s awesome. Totally forgot.
Yeah, aim assist is a really big difference between the games. In Halo 4, I can 5 shot someone without even moving my joystick, but in Halo 3, I actually have to aim.
I agree with this. It is one thing when a weapon is accurate, but is another thing when a people are hitting shots 247 at long range. That means that it is the weapon not the player. I do not see a problem with the br being accurate, but just because it is accurate does not mean that it has to kill at long ranges all the time with just aim.
But at the same time i feel like all this would not be a problem if aim was not so easy. I know bullet magnetism has always been in halo, but when you combine that with hitscan, you have an easy game. I feel like shots should go where they are supposed to, but that only seems like a problem because the reticle basically slows down so easily making aiming so easy.
So, yea hitscan, which basically makes the bullet go where you aim it at, will be easy when you have a reticle almost stick to the point where aiming is easy and high bullet magnetism.
I agree with everything the OP says. Every time I get on Halo 3 I never want to get off because it’s how Halo should be. Nothing more satisfying than playing this game. Pure skill and no gimmicks.
That is usually why so many people hate Halo 3 is because they simply suck at it and are unwilling to acknowledge their failures. So they hide in other failure halo games like Reach and Halo 4. When they can’t even walk across a map in halo 3 without getting decked 5 times over due to their lack of awareness and ability to use starting weapons is when you know they’ve never truly understood what classic Halo is.
Does anybody here think Halo will ever go back to it’s roots?

It had better. This games population will be in the 4 digit numbers by the time Halo 5 comes out, and if they want that game to succeed in any way they have to bring the game back to it’s Halo 3 standards, and I think that’s painfully obvious.
This thread getting moved to the Halo 3 section. Lol way to go monitors.
Also, with the Maps, I completely agree. The maps are an absolute joke in Halo 4. No map control at all. No strategy to the way things should be run. No spawn traps. No fun. The only competitive maps in this game are circles. And I’ve always hated circle maps. I miss gaurdian. And narrows. And construct.
However, ranks come out tomorrow. So that’s cool I suppose.
