It really is.
It’s kind of the basic definition of such ranking systems.
Beat teams above you to rank up. Lose to teams below you to rank down.
How much you go up or down depends on the size of the upset.
Throw in a little weighting for personal performance; KPM and DPM.
People just complicate it by trying to compare their journey to others and/or looking for hidden manipulation by 343.
Possibly. But that’s a problem with match making and population. Not the ranking system.
Overall you take the good with the bad. You will have high ping games you will lose. Other times it will be your opponents suffering.
It’s frustrating but it will eventually wash itself out.
Again. Don’t underestimate that the other team doesn’t have the same balance issues.
And even though that player is placing - the system has a fair idea of their expected output.
And if was an expected loss (matchmaking isn’t perfect) then there will be very little damage done to your MMR. You may lose CSR - but because your MMR hasn’t changed there really isn’t any damage done.
But as always - as the better player in the team you have to ask yourself - could you have done anything better to carry? Maybe you lost because the other team covered their lesser players better.
It is just a weighting. It works the same way for everyone.
In the vast majority of cases the W/L is a stronger influence than KPM.
In their case their MMR is much higher than their CSR and is pulling very hard. Add in a run of good form (eg. if they are going 32/8 every game) and you will get blips like this.
When their CSR and MMR are closer together it will behave in a more typical manner.
