I have been reading a significant amount of forum posts recently, and I have basically came to the conclusion that there are a number of people who are confused of the identity of what Halo Wars is. Not sure what exactly is going on with these people. They could of been too young to actually grasp and understand what defined Halo Wars, or they are just failing to remember the game since it has some age to it. Whatever may be the case, let me enlighten you of Halo Wars. Halo Wars is a RTS, but it is Halo Wars. It is not Starcraft, Command and Conquer, or Planetary Annhilation. What gave the game its longevity and uniquenes was its multiplayer and gameplay/game flow. So, the game doesn’t need to become or change into a different game. It just needs to enhance and upgrade every aspect it had in the original game.
As far as all the wishlists and ideas people are offering, most of what people are asking for are unrealistic and outlandish. People are seeing the game as a RTS and not as Halo Wars. Creative Assembly have stated that they are using Halo Wars as a foundation for the sequel and that the next installment is going to be a true sequel.
People have posted some very cool and interesting ideas/topics, but sadly, most of these are irrelevant to Halo Wars unfortunately. For what it is worth, I did enjoy reading some of the community’s ideas.
A agree with you completely. And when you say, “Not sure what exactly is going on with these people.” It’s just a matter of them being completely causal gamers. They don’t care about details, nor do they understand the intricacies of the game even if it appears simple on the outside. People suggest a Flood faction daily. People suggest non-static bases daily. People suggest space battles daily. You can’t blame them for their ignorance, but it is frustrating. I’ve said many times that Halo Wars 2 should refine the original, not completely change the game. A Flood faction and space battles could work, but it would be tremendously time consuming. The worst suggestion out of the three that I mentioned would be non-static bases. It would completely change the game. It’s brought up time and time again by casual players that don’t care enough to read Ensemble’s dev blog.
In the end, Halo Wars 2’s gameplay should be kept as close to identical as the original as possible. Fix balance issues, add a map maker, introduce new gamemodes… Nothing too ambitious should be attempted. Not when CA only gave themselves a bit over a year to complete a game that people have been yearning for since 2010.
Hmmm, so if you posted this all the Halo 5 forums the response would be so you are arguing for Halo 3A. But I digress, it’s of ignorance perhaps but maybe they want tried to suggest a better game, or make improvements they think are better. Just my personal opinion, and anything new and good takes work. So does making a game.
I share your sentiment and i rly hope that Halo Wars 2 doesn’t completely change the formula for Halo Wars, I would love to see alot of new thing and ideas being implemented but i do not want them to completely change everything especially the control scheme or the way the game works. sure the game need some improvement like group control and better hotkeys but i feel what your saying i think the reason everybody posting stuff like that is because for some reason HAlo Wars has like this wierd reputation that its didnt do well or wasnt good enough to do again. yeah HW didnt sell as much when you compare it to another Halo game like 3 or Reach but 2.8 million is like crazy amazing when you consider what Genre HW is. up until that point console RTS were a joke because map building anywhere just is suited more for a keyboard and mouse, HW is long considered to be one of the best controlled console RTS because of these change from the typical RTS. And hey its its not like its units sold is that much lower then Halo 5’s
