Didn’t Spartans from Sparta actually start their training as children? The II’s and III’s did that and ended up being very lethal soldiers.
I suppose that’s why I have such a problem with the IV’s.

The Spartan IV’s were asked (if I remember right) to be a part of the Spartan Ops program and become Spartan IV’s. Most of them came from having outstanding Military backgrounds though which made them candidates for the program.
(Was it called the Spartan Ops Program for the IV’s?)
You don’t have to be 'trained from birth" to be an outstanding soldier. It definitely helps, but it isn’t everything.
As the other reply says, the S-IV’s are all from outstanding military backgrounds, largely ODST’s.
They have similar armor, and similar augmentations, all they lack is the amount of time in training. A S-IV and a S-II of the same age would have a similar amount of actual field experience.
That’s not to say the portrayal has been good in h4, but one should not hate the S-IV’s simply because they had a normal childhood.

I find that hard to believe, lol.
they can still be great without all the extra training. odst’s were good and had just normal training (for special forces that is) they just need a bit of field experience to top them off.
there is no reason to ever use child soldiers again.

We haven’t even seen many, we can’t be so quick to make assumptions about them all
Yeah, have you not seen the film 300?
On a serious note, the IIs and IIIs will likely have much better unit cohesion than any other fighting force humanity could muster because of the fact that they were trained together and lived as a family since they were incredibly young. That training is vital and important and probably much better (I say probably but it’s pretty much fact) than any other fighting force has ever been trained. Let’s not forget the importance of experience however.
The IVs either have an outstanding military background, have been seen as having promise in them or have above average genes. Either way, they’ll all have military experience and they’re better than just your average Joe. The’ll have years of combat experience (Even if it’s just a couple) and the ones that are ODSTs will be the best of the best. These guys will be second only to previous Spartans and no one else. They’re essentially the SAS and Navy SEALs of today but on steroids in a high tech Mjolnir suit. Some of them even have decades of experience as seen when you listen to their idle conversation e.g. fighting alongside Spartans back in 2527 or being ODSTs back in 2535.
I really dislike the fact that people denounce the Spartan IVs because we’ve only seen a very small sample of them, know very little and them and we haven’t seen them in sufficient scrutiny e.g. a book. Some of my favourite examples of the Spartan IVs actually being badass are Shadow team taking down that cruiser from the inside (Just 5 guys) and pretty much all of Crimson teams adventures.
If they were to portray the IV’s in 4 (lol) then they should have showed them as serious badass Spartans, all I saw we’re abunch of jocks in armor who can’t follow orders well. Until I see them in another game or read about them in a novel being awesome, I’m just gonna take it their not so great.
And the movie 300 Is why I asked if REAL Spartans trained from child ages.
I love odst’s to death but I even think only a few could make it as spartan. Buck, Rookie, and Dutch from the games. And maybe those 2 from glass lands
Well, IVs are basically ODSTs or Marines in fancy armor.
And there is so much propaganda and stuff showing how amazing the Spartans and the whole program is, so its almost likely some will get cocky.

If they’ve got what it takes and do a damn good job at it, they’ll be cocky. It just depends on the person, really.

Don’t just take them as being “not so great” because we haven’t seen their full potential yet. They will be as good as other generations of Spartan as shown by Crimson’s antics, Shadow team etc. It would be very nice to see them in a book or something.
Yeah that 300 line was just intended for a bit of humour.
Well tbf Buck’s squad are some of the very few ODST’s we’ve seen in depth. They’d all make excellent Spartans I’m sure of it, but there are possibly thousands of even better candidates. The ODSTs are the best of the best besides the Spartans.
Did anyone else, besides me, ever think that 343i intentionally made the Spartan IVs cocky and arrogant to show the real true Spartan ethics(probably the wrong word haha) that make up the Spartan IIs and on a slightly lower level the Spartan IIIs?
Possible Halo 4 SPOILERS below!
In the beginning of Halo 4 campaign, when Dr. Halsey is being interrogated, she mentions and I quote “Children’s minds are more easily accepting of indoctrination. Their bodies are more adaptable to augmentation. The result was the ultimate soldier.”
Now when I hear that, I feel that means that the Spartan IIs and Spartan IIIs are much more likely to complete their task, assignment and mission without the cockiness and arrogance that portrays from regular military or experiences soldiers given a Section III Special Operations position such as Spartan.
I’m sorry for how this is explained, I have never been good at explaining things, I can understand it and explain it in my head but in words and text it sounds odd.
