Readjusting Controller Settings After Winter Update

I dont believe I have ever messed with settings so much in any FPS game like I have with Infinite.

I feel like most other FPS games are at least spot on right out of the box, but on my XSX with a Elite Series 2 controller, it feels like theres so much to customize to make things “feel right”

Not only are there plenty of settings in game to mess with, but the Elite has it’s own menu where you can adjust dead zones and what not.

Adjusting settings in both of these menus, I still dont believe I have found the best solution yet. I see people in videos on youtube and it looks like their aiming is so smooth, while mine kind of “jerks around” and isnt always precise.

So has anyone needed to go back and readjust their settings after this Winter Update? (And test it out in Academy?) I believe I was getting used to aim assist and now it feels toned down (turned off completely?) with controller and things feel off again…

What’s the strategy to finding what works best? Just keep playing with the settings and sticking with what feels the best to use?

What I would do in your case is reset to default all the settings in the controller tab (and the elite settings as well, I don’t know how that works though), play the game with default settings for a bit, then start to touch up the basic stuff first, first vertical/horizontal sensitivity and then aim acceleration.

I never felt the need to touch dead zones and more complicated stuff, and I’m pretty satisfied with my current settings.

Also I found that after one of the last updates the game received, some values in the controller tab differed from the default values despite the fact I never touched them in the first place… so maybe one of the updates broke your settings, so that’s another reason to reset to default.

Then again I’ve never tried an elite controller so maybe aiming in this game just feels bad on the elite when compared with other games.

Thats a pretty good idea.
I dont remember what the exact settings were before this last update. But I do feel like Aim Assist helped me before. Or maybe i just got used to it. But now it feels like theres not as much “pull” as before. Maybe thats playing into what im experiencing.

The winter update also changed the weapon balance including aim assist strength on some weapons now that I think about it. I didn’t notice much difference though.

Hey i use a Scuf Instinct Pro and made this thread when the game first came out that should help. I think Infinite plays super smooth and is the best feeling Halo to date with these settings. The default settings are definitely garbage though.

“Need help aiming in Infinite? (if it feels off to you try this set up for controllers)”

https://forums.halowaypoint.com/t/need-help-aiming-in-infinite-if-it-feels-off-to-you-try-this-set-up-for-controllers/11780

Only thing i didn’t say on here is what i have my paddles set to. Hold the controller normally and flip it over but still have the front facing away from you, read them from left to right and I have them as:

A, X, Y, Right Stick Click.

Above is the name of the thread then here is the link. Many of the comments are even more help with adjusting setting so there should be a lot of good advice here.

Hope this helps.

^ Thanks!

Have you noticed anything change with this Winter update?

Going to be honest. I’ve been on MW2 when i have time to game so no i haven’t. If i notice this control scheme doesn’t work right anymore ill add another comment with the tuning but i expect to not have to change anything.

A lot of this is what i do on every FPS game i play so it feels pretty universal.

No problem. So there’s nothing in the controller menu titled “aim acceleration” - you are referring to the “Sensitivity & Acceleration” section and then “Look acceleration & sensitivity horizontal/vertical” ? Max ALL of those out?

So i find the Sensitivity even at max to be a little too slow for me in Infinite so i max it out. The Sensitivity, both horizontal and vertical, is more personal preference.

As far as the Look Acceleration is concerned, yes max it, especially if you are used to other FPS games released from more than the last couple of years.

MW2 has a bunch of aim response curve options that i wish Infinite had. Most FPS games i have played had a linear response curve to stick inputs. Now many games default to having aim acceleration with a different curve (the name eludes me at this moment) and the only way to make it feel close to linear in Infinite is to max out the acceleration.

I was in a pretty ok place pre update and now definitely feel like there’s not much pull anymore so starting to reset my sensitivity. I think I heard somewhere with less aim assist high sensitivity is detrimental.

Are you on xbox or pc?

On PC using the xbox app I used to get “heavy aim” where it would take way too long for my crosshair to move, and by the time it moved my right stick had been pushed too far and just results in windmilling all the time.

Sometimes a reboot would fix it, but eventually I discovered it went away when the controller was connected via bluetooth instead of cable. I still need to have the cable plugged in for the headset audio to work. It’s a strange setup, but it works for me!

XSX using Elite Series 2 controller. Controller is fine with no stick drift or anything.

The update have really messed with my aim. I find it frustrating:3

I have changed my setting ALOT though out my over 2000 games. I finally found some settings i liked.

Now i feel like i need to hunt for the perfekt settings again. Feels like the aim assist is extremely low.

Same. I try tweaking one thing at a time and testing in Academy. Time consuming and somethings I cant even tell if it helps or not. I think i found some good settings now. Will continue to test and monitor.

I’ve been saying controller feels bad since beta, it got even worse in the update. At least Forge is really good.

I feel like other people are able to down me faster. By headshots I presume. I notice I dont get a lot of them unless i’m ADS. But even then my aim never feels smooth to adjust in a pinch.

Anyone have tips to improve this? How can i get headshots more consistently?

What do you mean here?

What input do you have assigned to aim in? I have the left bumper which is almost immediate and i can reclick it if i get descoped.

That may be how people seem to aim in faster than you. Input latency on your monitor/tv could also be hindering you a bit.

I went to adjust some volume setting and it reset all my settings. This game is so broken.

Interesting. Hadnt thought about that. I use LT to ADS. But my Elite controller has the triggers set to barely press and they register. I like that because the L/RB’s on the Elite controller are super sensitive , LB broke on my last controller. lol
