Read Somewhere that MC is Set to Die in infinite..

Title - I think that is a REAL dumb idea. even if it is fake (let it be) I think the best thing to do is what Bungie did (I am not a Bungie Fan Boy BTW) in Halo 3.
Where MC was last seen drifting through space maybe have him clasping cortana’s chip in drift off, and if there is a NEW CHARACTER ARC, let it be like Reach.
you know? Where the Hero was the Players Creation of a Spartan. And if MC does die, let it be like the Didact in Halo 4, where he doesn’t die and comes back. (Even if he does die in a comic, but MC’s death should be hinted rather than seen… but speaking how much time he spent on the floor face down like your grandparents in their old age did, in Halo 4, might be time for him to go). Heck I would not mind fighting along side the chief rather than playing him, I think that would be the coolest option. killing him off, yea part of me says it is time, he has had 6 games and been in several books and other media, he has been a long living faithful soldier, but also part of me says he needs to live on and rather be a -Yoink!- of a AI partner.

Has anyone else heard anything about this?
What are your thoughts of chief dying or living on?
Do you like my idea(s)?

Cortana’s chip has been dusted since Mantle’s Approach destruction. Why would he be at Reach? The planet probably a cloud of dust, molten, debris-ridden slag after the events of Shadows of Reach.

I’ve heard a lot of speculation about Chief dying and I think that mostly comes from people just wondering if 343i is going to try and pull a fast one for a ‘dramatic death that we care about’. You know, like how people said Johnson was immortal because Bungie made an easter egg that wasn’t canon of Johnson hugging the Elite at the end of CE? And then in 3 he actually died. I have yet to hear anything about it from reliable sources such as 343i themselves or people in the know.

Also, Chief is like, 50 by Infinite, why is everyone acting like he’s some old timer who should have retired 20 years ago? Granted the Halo series itself has gone on for literally 20 years by now and yeah he’s been the main focus in at least 5 of the titles, I don’t think we should be just killing the main protagonist simply because he’s been around a bit. Though making him an AI companion wouldn’t be too bad, maybe we can play as Jerome.

Dudehime, the Mc is not going away… Probably just speculation

I don’t think 343i should kill him, just do what BUNGIE did at the end of Halo 3…

You must be new to the halo community. I remember there being theories that chief was going to die in Halo 2, and 3, and 4, and 5. They even put a fake script page I think in halo 5’s promotional stuff just to meme about how this theory pops up every time.

If, and thats a very big IF they have planned chief would die in this one, they probably already have it all plotted out and your speculation and ideas will have zero effect on how they plan to do it.

Unless it’s in Year 8 of 10 and it’s only a post-it on the Whiteboard of Plot at this point.

It seems you got fooled, son

I’m certain somebody has said that before the release of every game in last decade. I’m not saying that it’s not going to happen. Just that this speculation didn’t mean much.

While Chief is a great and loved character I believe that if 343i really wants to make their own mark on the Halo franchise, make something that is truly their own, they have to let Chief go. Either by killing him off or letting him retire or what not. I don´t want him killed off, but I think that it would give 343i more freedom.

They somewhat tried that in H5 it feels like but that story was just poor all over and bad characters with no to little personalities IMO. We know that there are many Spartan-IIs still out there and maybe Alice or Fred or someone can be the new lead character going forward. Or just a newly created character.
We´ll see what happens in Infinite!

I haven’t heard anything about that, where did you read it? I’m fine with Chief dying if they do it right. He’s pretty damn old by now and had an amazing run. His story has to come to an end eventually and I wouldn’t be surprised if Infinite was it. Would be kind of sad to start off an Xbox generation with Chief dying though not gonna lie.

As Urbane pointed out, theories about Chief dying have been around for…well, forever. I wouldn’t count on them being true.

He’ll eventually have to die, by old age or in combat, unless somewhere down the line past Infinite he ends up unlocking some Forerunner chakra gives him eternal life/virtual invulnerability or something similar. I don’t think Chief will die with Infinite, though. At least at launch with the vanilla campaign. 9 years down the line with a final expansion to Infinite? Maybe, though I even then would still doubt it. But not for the base game, I don’t think so.

Master Chief should not die, and to do so would be poor decision-making. Introduce new characters in books, spin-off games, etc., but the Master Chief is as iconic as Mario and Sonic in many respects.

No way is chief going to die like there’s no chance in infinite anyway

I guess if he goes out saving the galaxy from some great threat or something I’m fine it.

If it’s done in a satisfying way, I don’t care if he dies
