Reaction to Bungie's new project Destiny

A lot of information has been released on their new project code named Destiny. I’ve read up about it quite a bit, and it would be stupid for me to say that it share’s no similarities to halo. However, I also noticed that it would include vast customization. To me, it seem’s a bit like Mass Effect. But either way I am extremely excited for it so far. They even have a video for it on the xbox dashboard. What did you guys think?

Well for starters destiny is not the code name that is what its called. And it sounds very interesting I like alot of what ive heard so far. And btw you posted this in the wrong section.

I think you’re going to end up in the General Discussion, and I also think I’m relieved and excited to have a game not constricted by pre-set ideas on how it should play…forever.

I apologize about the mistake. The few articles I read implied that Destiny was just a codename for it. Thanks for clearing it up!

I like that it has a symbol similar to the Marathon symbol and the classic O in HALO. I’d like to see all these symbols come together one day. I could also see the halo symbol appearing in this game as an easteregg just like how we saw the marathon symbols in halo 1 to 3.

When I saw Marty, I nearly died of excitement.

I’m very excited about Destiny. It will be very interesting to see what Bungie has up their sleeve this time around.

May I ask as to why this thread is in the Halo 4 Forum rather than the General Discussion Forum?

When it comes to forum post’s, I am a noob.

Isn’t it targeted for younger players?

For starters. This topic belongs under the “General Discussion” So look for Mods to move this one shortly.

2nd. Check this out.

Enjoy.

Forum issues aside, I’m excited. It seems to me exactly what the Sci-Fi FPS genre needs right now (a more expansive Firefall that’s hopefully less grindy.) But I do have some reservations (I am getting a “Brink” feeling from what I saw in the vidoc.) so we’ll see what comes of it.

Destiny looks like a winner. From the pre-order page at Destiny’s website, this looks like an Xbox 360 and a PS3 game, so no worries about having to buy an Xbox 720 or PS4. There are also rumors about whether Destiny is MMORPG or a cooperative shooter. The on-line game play elements seems unclear, and I sincerely hope Bungie includes a player vs player death match mode. Also looks like Bungie is giving us flying and space ship battles as they did in Halo:Reach. My only concern is whether the iOS app is necessary for game play and whether Bungie will pull a Mass Effect 3 and require some kind of on-line activity. Halo sufficiently encroached on my personal life; i do not need to live a video game 24/7.

  1. 343 better fix Halo 4.

  2. Halo 5 can’t be another half baked holiday sales dollar cash grab where many features are broken out of the box. Bungie never released anything that was broken out of the box.

  3. Halo 5 better have a BETA! Bungie knows the value of betas, had 'em, for Halo 3 and Reach. Destiny will probably have a beta.

  4. Destiny sounds like it will have DEDICATED SERVERS.

Bungie is back. 343 better get its poop in one sock or it’s done dealin’ and Halo is dead.

Kinda cool idea but I’m not really impressed. Plus it seems like something little kids would ruin and exploit. They’re gonna have to try harder if they want my money.

I think this game is going to dominate any platform it is released on.

HAHA see ya 343i once this game is out im leavin halo for good

As others said, general discussion forum.

I started a pretty in depth thread there a while ago, Destiny Thread Link. I started that thread from speculation and have updated it with the recent reveal information.

Mods: feel free to merge Destiny info to that one thread if you like

Bungie’s like a creative and dangerous tiger caged by Microsoft.

Now that Activision set Bungie free, they can unless all their creative fury.

The danger is… if Bungie pulls this endevour off, they could have a monopoly on the FPS/MMO future console genre.

Destiny awaits…

Be Brave. Let’s get revenge on whoever -Yoinked!- with transhumanity when Destiny is unleashed.

  • MMO-ish, the matchmaking connects you to players in certain instances at random, unless you party up before a quest. You can play it completely solo, but you must be connected since the everybody’s playing in a shared world. I imagine you can make it so you never have to meet people, an inverse of some fighting game arcade mode matchmaking. So you can play it solo, but in a shared world where players’ action impact it.
  • The world (which includes off terra locations like Mars and the Moon) has a day/night cycle and plenty of places to explore. The guardian hub is where you start and meet people. It seems you won’t have a point where 1000 players are in one place, that doesn’t seem to be what Bungie wants.
  • You can get a spacecraft (earning it some way) to travel off world, andthere will be different types. Whether traveling is a ‘warp’ with a loadscreen or actually you space traveling is up in the air. Bear in mind the last big innovation for Bungie’s Halo was a space dogfight.
  • There are three classes so far; Titan (guns), Hunter (marksman), and a Warlock or something who uses “magic”. Knowing Bungie’s pedigree I doubt it’s actually magic in the mystical sense, but some cosmic tech that might as well be magic in a Jack Kirby sense. Technically speaking for gameplay - yeah it’s pretty much magic. How these classes differ in gameplay (health, damage, etc) is yet to be revealed, as well as whether there are more classes.
  • There are vehicles to use, but I don’t know if you can claim one to have always or if you find them.
  • There is competitive PvP, but you opt into it. There are no ‘PvP Zones’ or whatever. In this mode you can earn stuff to have and to hold anywhere.
  • Your character is fully customizable; weapons, gear, fashion.
  • The social aspect they’re leaning to probably means factions/guilds/clans but we’ll see.
  • One type of enemy are ‘Space Zombie’ things.
